Wet hides

i have never used a wet hide but now i think i might try it... but i just had a quick question.. is it important the type of moss used in the hide???
a few pet stores around here carry some differen't types of "terarium mosses" but more importantly is there any type of mossy substrate that should be avoided?? i know lots of ppl use the sphagnum moss but i am having a hard time finding some aound here--gardening place??
maybe i am just over analyzing everything..

i use dried moss, that comes in a block. You then just add the water and it increases in size loads.

I wouldn't have thought it matters much (moss straight from outside might have some hidden nasties though) though use any type of moss, you can also use paper towels for a moist hide, although IMO they don't hold the water aswell

I tell you guys you should try it! I know some use paper towels instead. BUT I just love the earthy smell moss has & I think its like giving your snake a mini spa treatment...LOL Cindy just shed last night & that girl was in hers for over a wk. I thought she would never shed! Her skin was hanging off..not really but still it was pretty cute. She had a complete shed.
At first I thought when Nanci posted her thread re wethides I thought Its too much of a hassle, & I just got tired of trying to get my one snake to have a complete shed that I caved & found out how cheap & easy to assemble it was. I put one hide in on the cooler side of the viv.
And the Moss goes a long ways, I have 5 snakes & that bag I have had for a few sheds now & I still have over a half a bag left.

My question to the hide users w/Moss can you dry the moss out & re-use it? I am throwing it out, but was just curious if you can clean/re-use? Just a thought TIA! :)

Well Simon has been out of blue now for 2 days so I took him out to look him over and scratched his chin as I do once in a while. He let me scratch for a few minutes, stiffening his neck the whole time as if to say "OH YEAH, RIGHT THERE"!:)

No shed yet!:(

After the blue phase they'll enter a 2-4 period of where they appear to be back to normal again. I'm sure that if it's been 2 days since the blue period he'll shed pretty soon, just make sure you keep the humidity up. :)

All the best

David

With apologies to Larry the Cable Guy...

That's pretty cute right there. I don't care who you are.
