What did you do with your corn snake today?

DollysMom

It never gets old!
I wanted to make a thread where people can post all those wonderful things we do with our snakes, and that they do with us. It can be as simple as holding your snake, feeding your snake, cleaning the tank, picking up poo, etc. It's a thread where you can post stuff that usually doesn't warrant a thread of its own.

I've seen this before on other forums and am starting it (don't know if it will catch on here) because how many times can I say on the progression that Dolly ate or shed or did something snakeyishly adorable.

So here goes:

After 10 days of Dolly in shed and in hiding, I found a beautiful complete shed this morning. Dolly was still sleeping in the cozy rock cave so I left him alone. When I checked later his head was poking out. I assured him that a mouse would be coming by later this afternoon. Then he started cruising. So even though I usually feed at 6 pm, I moved it up to 4. Needless to say, one more frozen thawed mouse is history and Dolly is back in the cozy rock cave, digesting.

Is it just me or are they just too cute when they poke their heads out of their hides looking for a mouse to come by?

Now tell me what you did with your corn snake today!

Today is feeding and cleaning day.

My husband and I also put together a new rack.

So all my babies will be fed then put into the new rack except for the two yearlings I have.

Wow, that's a good day's work for sure!

yeah, but at least most of them are fairly well calmed down, at least enough to take the pinkie from me after I weigh them instead of having to put them in a darkened container. Before they all wanted to be fed in the dark which was a pain as my yearlings and adult could care less if it was dark or in the middle of the day lol.

Now if only I could get them to enjoy handling like my adult and yearlings do. Only one that seems to enjoy getting out is the peppermint. Oh well, most of them are between 12g and 15g so I have plenty of time yet.

Today I started to set up the brand new 40B tank. My dad helped me build a stand from painted concrete blocks and plywood - it looks pretty cool. I found a roll of textured turquoise paper I attached as a backdrop which I think will make my little pink and orange amel look quite striking. I also did a lot of cleaning of hides and fake plants that I will be transferring over into the new viv.

As for Jag - I handled her for a little and she raised her tail as if she was going to poop but I think I scared her into not when I made a sudden movement to get a towel under her. (Sorry Jag, but no accidents on the carpet please :))

After moving the new base up to the room she is in, there was some dust so when I was vacuuming, she poked her head up of a hide and craned her neck around the corner to see what was up with all that noise :)

Tomorrow, I will buy one more package of clips (the clips I used on the old tank don't fit the new one's lid) and then it will be move-in day, so I am pretty excited.

DollysMom- this is a fun thread idea! It made me very happy to read the stories about other's snakes and care.

Thanks jagodzinski. I like hearing and sharing the large and small moments.

You mentioned the poop position. I'm now 100% accurate in identifying imminent defecation. Of course when I do it's like, "quiet everyone, don't disturb him." Lol, I have a carpet cleaner that will suck up anything a corn snake can produce.

Yes cjbage, those sure are still little ones. It's actually amazing how fast they learn to trust, but when they are little that self-preservation instinct is so strong.

I know exactly what you mean! Mine starts wiggling her tail and I know I have about 10 seconds to slide something under her before I have to deal with a mess. I also have her defecation cycle finally down after 6 years so I usually know when its safe to handle her. Its very funny the way the train us :)

Yes! Rufus used to completely hide when I first got him, but now he will crawl into one of his Hides and he always positions himself with his Head poking out. He likes to watch what I'm doing.

Sunday morning is Feeding time for Rufus and so he just ate about 30 minutes ago. He's now back in his cage.

And so far He has never pooped on me. I think he's a lot like me and prefers to do that in private.

Exercise seems to stimulate Dolly's system so to speak, so he does poop after he's been out and about especially on my bed. I put something washable over the down comforter. :)

Since he's digesting in the cozy rock cave, I'm not doing much with my snake today. Just the normal environmental heating, cleanliness, and water checks. I actually have my phone ding at me so I don't accidently miss a day. At my age, I need all the help I can get!

Hey dollysmom, our new baby ENIGMA sure feeds well. She even gave me a fright when she exploded at the mouse. So much better, lol. She also shed all in one yesterday.

I'm followight the thread.
Today was feeding day for Naga. He will start becoming blue in a few days: yesterday night he din't want to get hold and was acting a bit more reserved and nervous.
So today I also measured him and weighed him. He's currently at 77gr, 69 cm and turning a year old. Happy birthday for Naga.
He's getting so big!
