What do you keep your snake(s) in?

Hi, I was wondering what you guys keep your snakes in, and what precautions you take so they can't get out. The person who had my snake before me, said that he has gotten out multiple times, and is quite an escape artist. My snakes enclosure has the option to put a lock on it, maybe I should! What do you guys think?

I have a 40B (that means 40 breeder) tank for my snake. I use a hinged screen cover: THIS ONE.

To secure that, I use clips bought at the pet store for these screen covers (not sure what they are called). I have four one one half of the top and 2 securing the hinged part.

Now, my snake is fully grown so I am set as long as she cannot push the top off. However, there are gaps (about an 1/8 of an inch) in my setup a baby could sneak through. Obviously, with my bigger snake I just have to make sure the top cannot be "popped off" but if you have a little one, you might need to do some more work to seal up those corners. But avoid using tape - as it is dangerous because even if you think it's impossible, your snake will find a way to get stuck to it and can get hurt.

Good luck!

I only have one snake, and have no intention of breeding snakes, so I don't really need any sort of rack system. I am thinking of upgrading my snake though, he is only in a 20 gal.

If you have a petsmart or petco near you, they frequently run these promotions 1 dollar per gallon. About 4 months ago I upgraded from a 29 gallon to the 40B with 6 clips and the hinged lid all for under 65 dollars. Here is a 40B at petsmart for 40 dollars (I actually think this is the same one I have, so it does with with clips).

I keep him in an Exo Terra glass 36” x 18” x 18” (not many viv options in here) and have secured the cable gaps on the styrofoam background with some foam rubber fitting pieces. I've also secured the background to the back glass with 2 pieces of sticky velcro.
I think this size is like 40 breeder or so, I'm not sure, we don't use gallons here, but to me it seems a pretty nice size for a cornsnake.

IMO for the keeper with a few snakes the best escape proof Viv available is the Zilla Critter Cage. It has a sliding top that locks into built in clips. It's a bit pricey but due to the interlocking sliding top it is impossible to get out of.

I keep mine in tubs with my hubbys weights on them, 5lbs for small tubs 10 lbs for the bigger tubs. I also keep some in 40 gallon breeders with screen tops and clips.

Using the weights was the best idea ever because hubby just ordered me an animal plastics rack so he could get his weights back...LOL

Yep, interlocking slides, plus locking clips. Well, I was stumped by that too. They must have accidentally not closed it all the way or something, and he pushed it open maybe? He hasn't escaped while I have had him though, I just make sure that it is always closed all the way.
