What do You Use to Weigh Your Corns?

Alistani

Totally Enamored
Morning all!
I know this is probably a stupid question, but I was wondering what you all use exactly to weigh your corns? I want to keep track of Oberon's growth and I wasn't sure what to use to measure his weight. Any advice in this area would be very appreciated.

Thank!
~Lisa

I use the scale at Petco actually. :) My friend is a manager down there. Everytime I come in he says "So what new do you have today?"

I bought a nice one last year at the local Post Office. It "reads" in pounds and ounces, but it's easy to convert the weights over to grams.

I use a small digital gram scale that also has ounces, and I put a tupperware dish on the scale and then zero the scale, then I put dominoe in the dish and set the dish on the scale with him in it, and it reads his weight. you can get them on ebay, I got mine for 30 bucks.

Thanks for the input guys! I really appreciate it. :) I will look into getting one this weekend and see about weighing my little one. I'd like to start keeping track as soon as possible, especially since he didn't eat last night. Not sure if he's getting close to shed or not... just in case, I want to start monitoring as soon as I can. Make sure he doesn't start losing weight if he decides not to eat again. Hopefully he's just getting ready to shed and it's nothing to worry about... But you never know.

Thanks again! :)

I was selling digital pocket scales a while back, 500g limit, tare feature, and it weighed in grams, ounces, troy ounces and something else.

I think I sold 8 or 9 on here, and I've gotten good feedback so far from them, and mine has done the job well so far.

Anywho, I think I've got one around here somewhere. I was charging $30 shipped.

I don't think it was stupid, I was about to ask the same thing!!

Thanks, I feel a little better about asking now. :) It just seemed like it was probably something pretty obvious that I should just know.

Thanks! I will see what I can find in town first, but if I can't track something down, I might very well like to get one from you. :)

I bought my digital scale at Bed Bath and Beyond. It weighs in grams and ounces and has a tare feature also.

I got mine from OfficeMax for around $30. It weighs in oz/grams and lb/kgs. And also has a tare feature. Its also digital, and goes in increments of 1 gram or 1 oz. Check around the office supply stores. It should be in the postal/shipping department. The brand is Pelouze and it goes up to 5 lbs or 2.2 kg. Model #sp5. Hope that helps.

Goes to 5 lb. or 2 kg with 1/8 oz or 1 kg error + or - I think I paid $25 bucks for it. My amel is well over 500 grams, and so far it's keeping up with him.

Just be aware that scales that have a maximum capacity of 5lbs or 2kg are horrendous with accuracy. It all depends on how picky you want to be with your numbers.

A few grams off on accuracy makes a huge difference on a 15gram snake, while not so big of a difference on a 500gram snake.

I did the penny test with it, or nickle or whatever someone had suggested at one time on here and it was right on for weight. I haven't rechecked it since then, but all my snakes are well over 30 or 40 grams so I'm not super worried. Maybe when I finally have my leetle babies next year........

My husband found a Sharper Image "Carb Tracker Nutrition Scale" at TJ Max that had a flat platform (to put a container on), weighed in grams or ounces, has a tare function and has an easy to read digital display. I can't remember what the max weight is for the scale but it seems accurate so far. If someone knows the nickel test (?) I'd love to try it to see if the scale is as accurate as we think. And if Sharper Image had a code for snakes I could even tell you the snakes carbohydrate, calorie, fat and cholesterol level! lol

I'm going to back on the search function and see if I can find the thread that gave the weight of a penny.
