what is a sunglow?

Zulu3

bad luck charm
I have a striped sunglow, but what is that in genetics? I guess I mean what is that the trade name for. I am trying to get her calculated out with that handy dandy corn calc to see what I could put her with.

Thanks
Ali

I'm not 100% but those who are out there will correct me if I'm wrong. I believe it maybe Hypo and Amel. Atleast in Boas that is what a Sunglow is. Those who have known Sunglows for years now will have a better answer for you. Great corn though :)

A Sunglow is simply a line bred Amelanistic snake. It is bred for no white showing, which would be in direct contrast to a Candy Cane which is bred for the cleanest available white showing. Very good Sunglows show no white and are very bright reds and yellows. An extremely good example of a Sunglow Stripe IMHO would be those produced by Bayou Reptile this year. They just burned the retinas! I already have Sunglows but I had to have a pair of those.

Oh okay so no hypo involved?

Sunglows are selectively bred Amels ... IOW "Sunglow" is not a simple recessive gene.

Terri pretty much summed it up ... Sunglow = vibrancy and no white around borders.

Back in the day, when creating Sunglows, Hypo had been used by some/several? breeders. Thus, some people believe that Sunglows must carry Hypo. However, this is not so ... they may carry Hypo or they may not (it is not a criteria).

thanks guys here is a picture of the girl in question. by your definition she may not be a sunglow afterall? Let me know what you think...

That's more of a Sunlog.... :D

and a little early to be calculating breedings for... a lot changes in 3 years...

i'ma can't find it? I'm not planning on breeding her any time soon ;)
I may not be an expert but I'm not THAT off track, thankfully.

What is this sunlog we speak of?

Click on the search button and type in Sunlog... I didn't see the fun one that's 11 pages long, but there are still good ones...

So there you have it, I was wrong. I've never had Sunglows and really did not know much about them, but figured the name came from where the boas were made . My bad, but I'm glad because now I know what they are.

The neat thing about Olive is that she will most probably get more colorful with each shed. I've seen Amel stripes just like her and they end up being very saturated adults. She a beautiful animal with a clean look to her. I hope you continue to share pics of her as she grows into her color. Time will tell whether she qualifies as a "Sunglow". Regardless she's a keeper!
Terri

Yes she is a beautiful girl =)
I will keep you all posted!

Thanks for all of your help,

Ali

Ah, the Classic Sunlog Thread.

I must admit, I wept a little while re-reading this.

But as to the definitions, I"ll stick with Terri's well-written description.

Of course, we'd all have known this if we would've just taken the time to read Katy Manula!

Dale

Wow, haha, I had no idea what you were talking about. I just got to the Katy Manula part...priceless.

Wasn't that the FUNNIEST thread? Goodness! Washing Machine Rider??? I can't stop giggling! :D I certainly hope I NEVER act like that... EVER!

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to jazzgeek again.

Darn it! Oh that brought back memories...
