What should snake poop look like (Serious question)

on a snake over a year old it wont hurt them to wait the 10 days :) I believe they are to be fed about 7-10 days anyway :)

I asked if it was a f/t because maybe it wasnt thawed all the way?? also depending on the substrate used in the cage.. its not a good idea to feed inside the tank... its just too easy to get that on the mouse (live or not) and ingested by the snake and that can cause stomache upset and impaction..
It is aspin, I am pretty sure that is the standard.

most do use that yes if they are useing something other than paper towels or newspaper... I am so curious as to why your snake threw up ... maybe the meal wasnt thawed out enough?? or maybe too soon for a feeding?

Is this the first time it has fed for you??

I think the only ppl who feed inside the tanks are the ones who use either paper towel or newspaper for substrate..
Really? This is what I am curious about.
I am no expert, obviously, but I do have friends who raise snakes and fed them in their tanks, live prey, and no problems.
I would do anything for my snake, including feeding him outside his tank, but I want to be sure it is completely needed for it.
Would I just put him and the mouse in a bath tub or something?

most ppl here includeing myself feed frozen/thawed mice/rats .... safer for the snake. Most here feed in something like tupperware or gladware... plastic containers with lids...

It was live. Well I went by the wait 2-3 days before feeding a new snake rule, listed in nearly all snake owner books, because he needs to adjust before prey is introdued. And it also said that if he eats it means he is some what comfortable . Well he ate alright, live adult mouse, no problem. And digestion was going fine for 24 hours, but I just came home to this and got worried.

I mean he has been drinking, and temp is under control. And even right now he is extremely active, crawling all over the cage, no curled up or depressed (looking).

never live? I mean, there are feeder mice, they can't be that unhealthy if they even exist? Not attempting to sound ignorant by that post or anything, I'd just like to feed him live sometimes. They are equipped to do so.

although I could do f/t, sometimes along with it, no problem. I still don't think it caused that much problem, the mouse was dead within seconds, didn't injure the snake at all.

ok.... when was the last time he was fed before you brought him home??
That could be the problem, I don't know. I will find out tommorow, I'll call the place. I didn't know I should of asked, blah and shame on me.
Don't want him to starve

I raise feeder mice and rats but none of my snakes ever get live. They may be equipped for it but why take the chance of them getting an eye poked out or a scratch in their mouth and getting mouth rot?? I just would prefer to not chance it.

also, and someone correct me if I am wrong... some ppl wait even a week or so before feeding after they first bring home a snake (older one). maybe it was just too soon for him?? I am thinking since he is paceing.. he is nervous about something because usually corn snakes arent seen too much ... most anyway LOL hmmmm as long as his warm side is about 80 and cool side about 70..... he was eating fine before you brought him home.. isnt going to shed or something like that... I guess you can ask your bet but me?? I would wait 8-10 days and try to feed him again and see if he is ok....

I am going to take him to a vivarium that has a built in clinic, which is nice.
i will be sure to add in some frozen, but I'd be lying if I'd say I'd never give him a live mice again.
arm side 85, cool side 75, that seems to be what people go with, and it seems to be working.

I'll see what the experts have to say tommorow, right now he is in his hide and seems to be pretty happy. So, I will find out whats going on then.

If anyone else has anything to contribute, feel free too.

please let us know what they say or if they find something?? Its always nice to know what is going on incase others have the same problem. I wish you luck :)

Kinda late but I would like to but my 2cents worth in if thats ok.
That is most deffitnally a regurg. (as stated)
I always wait at least one week before feeding a new snake so they can adjust. I have nothing to proove this is the best was besides two happy secure snakes.
If you wait 10 days he will not die of starvation. I have read corns surviving months with out eating. Recently someone posted a topic saying their ball python finally ate after a 9 month hunger strike.
I have dealt with regurgs. in the past and I will say from experience that its best to wait out the 10 days completely unbothered, with temps going good. Then go back to one week intrivals after waiting the 10 days. (wait 10 days feed, then go back to feeding her once every week)
Also I would not feed in his tank expecially on that bedding I suguest you switch to aspen shavings. The only snakes I would feed in their tanks are ones that get big and I would feed them on news paper and not bedding.
Dont over worry about him he will be ok.
Please let us know what the vet says :]

good luck and best wishes,
Nomed

oh also a poop for a corn snake should be a brown (almost) solid with a white/yellow solid in it all in a wet clear substance. Ive had corns poop on me and its no easy thing to clean :grin01:

Since everyone agrees that this is a regurge, please go and read Kathy Love's regurgitation treatment in the Health Issues/Feeding Problems FAQ, then follow it to the letter! The first thing is to wait 8-10 days after the regurge (not the feeding) before you try to feed again. Otherwise, the snake's stomach acids will not have built up enough to digest again and you could end up with a 2nd regurge (this happened to me). My experience ultimately worked out well by following Kathy's protocol, including using NutriBac, a powered probiotic formulated for reptiles.

Good luck.

Ok, so here is what the expert said.

Basically what you all said, wait atleast a week before feeding him. He said check the temp, which I did, there is no problem there (84 hot, 75 cold area).
His guess, and he was almost certian was the prey was simply to big for the momment. Once the week is over, I will give him some f/t mice, slightly smaller, but probably not pinkies, and work with that for a while.

My question is though, is about how long can a snake go without eating, and how long before no negative side effects? My thing is, he has gone about a week or so without eating, he is fine waiting another week- week and a half, correct? That would make the total 2-2 1/2 weeks.

Just checking.

Anything else I can do during this period to make my snake feel even better? The temp is fine, he has two hides, and lots of fresh water. But whatever makes him more relaxed.

I am by no means an expert, but waiting out the ten days after regurge is the most important thing you need to do at the moment. your snake will defenatly not become ill because of the not feeding him for this length of time. He may however if you feed him too early. This will just produce another regurge which will require another ten days non feeding. The only thing you may notice in your snake is he may be more activly searching for food. This site has so many people who know exactly what they are doing. Listen to there advice and your snake should be fine. Hope all goes well for you hun.

looked about like a hopper or sub-adult you gave him last time. Maybe try a large fuzzy next time and see if he does ok with it. :)

10 days After he threw up you can try to feed him again. A snake Can go a very long time without eating but its best not to push it either. I would just wait the 10 days After regurge and try again :)

Dont worry about him dying of hunger at all it would be really unnecessary and silly to.
