Now my little Ghost corn is being a %$#&. I tried taking him out tonight, and he striked at me twice. Then I said screw it. Which I know is bad, but I don't feel like being bitten. I need some gloves. Grr.
I don't know what my 2 snakes problems are. Weirdos.
LMAO!! Trudge on little soldier and get some gloves! Never been afraid of my cornsnakes or them striking at me, but I have a Macklotts Python that strikes at the water droplets when I mist his cage... that causes me pause! I am a bit of a weenie, I have my new husband get him out and strike at his thick skin but once he has him out and hands him to me he is just slitherin' about like a little pussy cat. Keep on little keeper! :grin01:
Yeah, I know he'd calm down if I picked him up. I tried to get my boyfriend to take him out for me..but he said he didn't feel like being striked at either.
Just weird that both my guys would have a sudden mood change.
not really very helpfull post to you, but just take it i reckon!
unless thers some reason for the mood like shedding etc. then ignore the behaviour and go for it, your only likely to get bit when you first pick it up (unless you've got real psychos!) :crazy02:
Plus it might just be a bluff! my corn when it was smaller used to get ready to strike, then do a sort of half strike, mouth closed, poor attempt at a strike; although mine would also strike properly (abit of a lottery), but ive had worse injuries stubbing my toe so....,
unless of course youve got an older, bigger snake, in which case.... try and enjoy the challenge!
I've found the best cure for the fear of being bitten by a cornsnake is to actually get bitten. Once you've discovered that even the bite of a large adult corn can be laughed off, you'll never be afraid again.

I agree! eventho I've ever been bitten.
I got over the "fear" by putting my hand in at feeding time, after a few strikes which felt more like something brushing against my hand. I thought...That's it!!!
I would go in with a closed fist and a "blind eye" to get the snake.
You'll do more damage with your hand jerking back than the actually bite!
Check what you've been cleaning your hands with. My lot don't seem to recognise me at first, if I use anything other than Sainsbury's lemon-scented soap before picking them up!
Also, what have you been eating or cooking recently? My lot go absolutely bananas if I handle them after chopping garlic. Last time I did that, I was bitten by two Corns that had never so much as looked at me funny before (or since).
Using gloves will certainly sort out that problem, while the alien scent is wearing off. I learned that tip the hard way...
It's been warmer lately. So the temperatures in the enclosure have been around 80. I don't turn on the heat lamp 'cause it'll get too hot.
There's no weird smells. I smell like I always do.
He looks evil when he strikes. And I can hear a hiss sound. So it just makes it worse.
Would I be able to feel the bite from this guy..If you can tell kinda how big he is in the picture.
good looking snake!, and i doubt that little guy could pierce your skin yet! i've been bitten by my corn at that age a few times (hes calmed right down now) i'd equal it to.... erm, attaching a paper clip to your hand.... not too bad all in all :crazy02:
My 300 gram ghost corn bit my son today, right on the forehead. He is A LOT younger than you are, and he just looked shocked then acted like nothing happened. There was a little bit of blood but he didn't cry or anything. When I say a lot younger than you I mean A LOT, as in under 2. If he can take it I know you or at least your boyfriend can.
