Hi,
I got my first corn yesterday, he's beautiful, and I called him Travis,
He's quite a big hatchling haven't measured i'd say 12-13 inch I reckon he hatched in the summer or autumn?

He was also sold as a Normal but his colours are so bright for a normal hatchling, looks orange with maroon saddles as opposed to the dark reds and light browns, I thought maybe it's a hypo because of the orange and red but also he doesn't much in the way of black bordering, or do normals' colours start coming in at this age...

ANYWAY! the actual thing I wanted to know is, as I got him yesterday, I'm letting him settle in, but as he's in my room every time he's exploring (last night and this evening), he stays completely still then flees to his big bark hide, Thing is, Do I try to no enter the room as much, thereby leaving him to explore, or come and go as I would normally - no more no less - letting him get used to being in my room. ?

Any advice would be great
Marty

some snakes will hide when you enter the room or turn on a light. Others will go about their buisness. But the viv should not be in a high traffic area, these animals get stressed out. Stress isnt a good thing because health issues can occur. I would go about your buisness and dont change your behavior for your snake, just leave him be and give him his acclimation time. if he is in a high traffic area i would find a better place for him. Good luck and enjoy the addiction

From what I have read from similar posts, I would say let him adapt to you. Changing your routine becomes counter productive. If he see's you doing the same thing over and over again (as long as its not harmful to him) he will get used to it and tolerate it. The more he see's you come and go, the more he will adjust to it.

Unless you are constantly coming and going I don't think it will be a big problem. Any time you spend sleeping (you do sleep right?) is time with no movement or distractions that he can explore without being frightened. Also, with regular handling over time he will probably start to mellow out.

Bottom line, if he is eating and keeping meals down, then I wouldn't worry too much.

If you are worried, you can always try putting a towel or some sort of cloth over the cage at night while you are still awake and moving around. I would take it off before going to bed to let him get more used to the natural light of the room and to let air in and out just to be safe.

Mine use to freeze when I walk in and didn't move until I walk towards the Viv. Then it would so the same and flee to his hide. Now he don't care.

good luck.

hey i agree with these guys. also if he is striking when u go to handle him to worry alls babies are like that. once u do get him into ur hands he wont strike.
