When breeding: Mice VS Rats + lab blocks?

MICE AND RAT BREEDING

Mice and rat breeding is alot of work and can get alittle expensive, but i still enjoy it,but not the price of lab block $$$$$

It's really not too bad. I get mine from the local feed store for $25 and that bag feeds 6 colonies for about a month. Maybe more, maybe less.. it really depends on if I supplement other things or not as well.

I think it is a good idea and sounds like fun. You need to go into it with the idea of it being a hobby that might earn a few dollars along the way. Do your research, go into it smart and you’ll do fine.

I’ve never been to Sparks, if you can find an AA Calisters near you or any other feed store that carries Purena products, the can get lab blocks for you. That would be a good option. Another option would be to buy cheap dog food, about $10 for 40 pounds, and the get a 50 pound bag of whole corn, about $8 per bag. Mix two scoops dog food to one scoop corn. That is not the best option but will work fine if you can’t get lab blocks.

You can also get horse bedding at the feed store that is cheap and works fine for rodents.

The cervical dislocation would be the best way for you to kill the mice. It is quick and easy. Decide what size you will need for your snakes and start freezing them at that size. The pet store will buy them when they are weanling size, about 3 or 4 weeks old. It will take some time to learn how many breeders to keep so you don’t end up with more than you need.

For your snakes mice will be the best bet. It is better for adult animals to eat adult animals. Your snake won’t get big enough to eat anything but baby rats. It would be better to feed it adult mice. Mice will have around 15 babies in a litter. If they are good mothers the will raise most of them. Rats will have around 10 per littler and raise all of them as well. Rats take a week or two longer to wean than mice.

Make it fun. Don’t worry about earning a lot of money. You will earn some but probably not too much. Just enjoy the adventure of raising them and selling them. It will be a good experience.
