When feeding a baby in seperate container...

Hey all,
I was just wondering. I have a seperate area to feed my lil baby. Now, I have read that you cant' handle them for a few days after a feeding so how do I take s/he out of the container to put it back in the tank. I will be giving the tank a full clean when it is feeding so it may have to stay in the container a bit longer. Dont' want to hurt the lil thing so can anyone help me with this question. Tks

The best thing to do mate is if the container fits into you tank put that in the tank and let your Snake crawl out when it's ready.

I personally feed mine on something that's too big to put in the tank so i pick my Snake up but i make sure i pick him up by the head and back end so i don't touch where the food is inside him.

You might get better dvice from someone wmore experienced m8 but i think this advice is ok you will soon see some more replies.

It's fine if your snake stays in the feeding container while you clean the cage. That's usually when I do a lot of little cage maintenance chores, like refilling the water bowl and such. If you think that it'll take a while for you to clean the cage (say, more than 30 min), and you have a small hatching who is skittish, it couldn't hurt to put half a toilet paper tube in there after (s)he is done eating. Just to give your snake something to hide under while you're busy with the cage. Add a hide isn't really necessary, but it could be comforting to a your snake.

When you pick up your snake, just do what you normally do. Hook a finger under the bulge so you can get your hand under there, lift him/her up, and support the rest with your other hand. Make sure the mouse is in the snake's belly when you go to pick it up. You don't want him/her to be still swallowing.

In my personal opinion, there are two types of handling. There's maintenance handling, and there's recreational handling. Maintenance handling tends to be short and sweet, while recreational handling is where all of the pictures are taken. The 48 hour rule [e.g. don't hold your snake for 48 hours after they've eaten] applies to recreational handling. Moving a snake from one place to another, as long as it's done quickly, will not 'break' the 48 hour rule.

Personally I wouldn't touch the bulge after the snake has eaten. I don't touch my snakes at all - I simply take the lid off the tub and hold it up to the doors of the main vivarium so the snake can slither in by himself. This might be more difficult if your tank opens from the top, though.

Depends on the snake, IMO. Skittish hatchlings I tip into their tubs, but as they ge older and calmer I lift them out as described above. The only adult I still tip is Pearl, because she stays in feeding mode and wants to take my hand off no matter how much she's eaten

I use the handles made for paint rollers (the smaller ones used for trim) from Wal-Mart. The ones with longer handles work best. When ever I need to move my anyone around feeding time they keep my hand from being mistaken for mice.
