When to seperate?

My colony of mice 1:4 has babies of hopperish size. When is it safe to put the babies in thier own cage? They started drinking out of the water bottle yesterday, am I safe to assume that they can eat block food now and not need mom?

Also my colony seems to be waiting for these babies to grow up and move out before they have more. (the babies were only from one litter) Is this sometimes normal? I have had colonies before that had babies of all ages, so I am a little worried that any of the other three females havent had babies yet.

Thanks

I was just wondering about this, lol. My first colony (1.2, but one of the females seems to be infertile, so more like 1.1) had a litter of 5. They're down to 4 (2.2), as I had to feed one off... I'm going to use the males to start two new colonies, with the peach fuzzy females from my second colony. Actually, the female is doing the same thing... She isn't showing any sort of pregnancy, even though it's been at least 3 weeks since the pups were born.

Anyway, I would wait until they're eating solids, at least. I've seen all of my 4 (about weanling size/age) drink from the water bottle and munch down on their block food. Also, I've also heard 3-5 weeks.. If possible, I would leave them for 4 or 5 weeks. That's what I'm going to do... They're staying in for another couple of weeks, then going into another enclosure (or two, not sure if I'll separate them before then) until their females grow up a bit more.

3-4 weeks, or when they start eating/drinking on their own, is a prefect time to seperate. If you have several colonies at this stage, This is a great time to mix and match to create a new colony.

Thank you for your replies, I did notice them eating on thier own. So I set up a tank of mini mouses.

I forget there is a search feature, or I dont put in the right words. So after I post, I continue searching and allways find it..
