Where can I get co2?

I now have more mice that i have snakes to eat em. there are 5 weanlings left, everyone is well fed, and there are more on the way. where can i get a small amount of co2? is it easy to get?

I do not know about NY specifically but here in Kansas City most welding supply stores have small bottles of CO2 plus all the gear you will need. Another option is to ask a cafe or any store that sells fountain sodas as they all require CO2. They may sell you a bottle or at least tell you where they get it from.

Sorry I can't be any more specific.

what other equipment will i need? i don't want to go there and ask them when i have no idea, they'll probably try and sell me all kinds of crap i don't need.

Hi skeet, and howdo graffix?. Here's a past post that if you scroll down shows you pics of what to use. The stuff can be bought from a paintball shop, or even ebay, and once you get your head round the names its pretty easy to set up. Hope this helps

Just to add, our Lowe's grocery stores here carry dry ice. You can make your own CO2 chamber very easily and cheaply from there. Don't know if any grocery stores where you are carry dry ice, but it's worth a try.

I find that the paintball shops are usually the best. Just make sure you purchase the regulator witht the bottle. Most CO2 containers can be had for under 30 bucks and fills run 2-5 dollars.

I've been working in a psych lab in school since the middle of the summer. Today i went to the guy whos in charge of all the machinery and such in the lab, and asked him about building a chamber. he told me not to use the co2 from paintballs, b/c it contains water and that it's a really painful death. He said to use only completely dry co2. Anyways he's gonna help me get one from the lab supplier, but thought you guys might wanna look into it.

I have a friend who is a researcher in a lab and they have cell samples delivered every day in styro boxes chock full of dry ice. You might know of someone who throws it out every day who could toss some your way when you need it.

why exactly would you need a CO2 connection to your tank

It's a way of humanely and cleanly pre-killing feeder mice..

The CO2 you get from welding supply shops is dry, and will get the job done. I use CO2 on my planted aquarium, and there is no moisture or condensate in the supply hoses with CO2 fills from a welder. As previously stated, you can get a tank and regulators from them as well.....

Co2 from a welding shop and paintball supplier is the exact same thing. It all comes from gas suppliers (many a times from Praxair) and if one was different than the other, it would be label as such...that's the law.

This is true from my understanding as well.

The reason I mentioned welding supply stores is that,
1) they have the regulators and hoses best suited to a kill tank in stock,
2) they are, more often than not, less expensive on refills than paintball stores (as allot of these are general sporting goods stores),
and 3) Have a better over all knowledge of gas supply hook-ups and can give better advice to the novice (like they did for me).

I am going to be in agreement with Brett and Quigs. I have actually seen the praxair truck go from Lab to lab and even to paintball stores. SO I would have to say the CO2 is the same.
I do not have a welding supply house near me but I am lucky enough to live next door to the guy who owns National Paintball and he gets a kick out of the fact that I use his Co2 to kill mice and rats so he gives it to me for free.
:santa:

:-offtopic Hey Ed, I thought you were on vacation. Should a stray bloodred happen to find its way into your bag at MARS feel free to ship it along. LOL  Have a great one.

:-offtopic I am on vacation, just for some reason I cannot leave the laptop behind. Especially when the hotel advertises free wireless :)

Sounds logical to me. The only reason I "only" mentioned a welders supply place is I have no firsthand experience with paintball shops. It sounds like either will work then....

right on...don't know of any welding places, but i know where there's this sick paintball shop i'm gonna hit up. i just don't understand how i'm gonna get the gas to come out of a paintball canister.

You might need to get the tank and regulator somewhere else, and keep the paintball shop in mind for refills. I would think that even a small cylinder will last quite a while.

Do a yellow page search for welding supplies. Western Nassau and Queens are loaded with scrap yards and auto body shops. There should be a place near you. They are usually located in industrial parks and such, so you'd never notice them until you look for one...

They can provide you with a regulator, which is essentially a screw that pushes down and opens the valve which releases air.
