With many of them you can do just that. There's nothing to be gained by putting it through the hassle of probing it if you can determine its sex by looking at it. This could also be a sign of that breeder having lots and lots of experience.

Also, not everyone pays attention to all the genetics and morph trends. I don't think this makes someone disreputable either.

Personally, I prefer buying directly from the source, where I can get as much detailed information as possible about the particular snake. I don't think you'll ever find a cornsnake in a pet shop that comes with a pedigree or genetic information, so I'm not sure why it would matter whether or not the person who bred them or the store's employees are capable of writing out a genotype. :santa:
