Where do they all go?

I think I'll enter this debate, spurious as it is! ;)

It's impossible to know, but my instinct is that most snakes have "average" lives. By that I mean that most casual keepers (by that I mean people with just a pet, not a large collection or breeding plans) must surely provide at least a minimal level of care, or they wouldn't get a snake in the first place if they couldn't be bothered to look after it. Maybe you know people or petshops that have bad husbandry, but I'm in an optimistic mood and prefer to give the snake owning public the benefit of the doubt.

Not til you posted!

Whoops! Sorry folks - sounded a bit arsey back there, apologies all round.

But seriously, if any of us breeders (big or small) truly believed that 50-75% of the animals we bred would live neglected lives, would we breed at all?

I'd stop in a heartbeat if there were any concrete evidence to back up those stats.

I apologise if I stepped on any toes, In no way was it my intention to imply that breeders, particularly those that frequent this site, have anything but the best intentions for their snakes, furthermore being as there is no fact no statistical evidence to support either side of this conversation I, being the forever pessimist, choose to believe the negative.i just felt this was a question that might bring about some intelligent conversation.
Whatever your intentions the road to hell is paved with good ones.

P.S. Someone has to be the devils advocate,I hope this doesn't reflect negatively on me. :)

You were hoping for intelligent conversation? Some pessimist YOU are. ;)

Additionally.......I'm amazed that the conversation continued for as long as it did, given the numbers I "cited"......

....I'd have thought that the "BS-CACA" would have been a dead giveaway.

Oh well. :grin01:

No offense taken. It's all fun and games. :D

I know I wouldn't ever consider breeding as a hobby if I didn't think I could find good homes for my hatchlings.
