Hello i live in hampshire (england) just wondering where to buy live pinkies and mice

can any1 help

almost all pet stores will carry live mice, rats or hamsters. corn snakes are for the most part not verry picky. break open the phone book and call around or google pet stores in your area. live pinkies are alot harder to find than adults. you might have to set up a couple of breeding tanks (1M to 3F). if possible i recomend trying frozen thawed.

I'm not going to agree with the above poster in the sense that almost all pet stores carry live mice (for feeding), and I wouldn't even say that almost all carry frozen mice for feeding. I have a local farm & feed store that sells live mice of varying ages. I will however agree with the above poster that you should try searching the phonebook and calling around.

Most pet stores in the United States have live mice, this is probably not the case in the UK, which is where the original poster was asking about.

The UK has a ridiculous law making it virtually illegal to feed live mice, so there probably is not much of a market for them over there.

i don't know of anywhere that sells live mice as feeders in the UK. most places seem horrified at the suggestion of even breeding there mice to feed to my snakes, i have now got a mice production line running ;) i am feeding them dead though.

I wasn't sure, but I thought that I had heard that the availability was a bit different over there. That is why I decided to post the link.

This site does have a relatively strong contingent of UK hobbyists/breeders, though I am not sure whether any live close enough to you to give you any good recommendations. I believe that in the thread that I linked there was mention of the price of grain rising, which effected the availability of lab mice (leading to a bit of a price increase).

Again, good luck.

There is, however, a much larger pet mouse market over in the UK, I believe. You could probably get a trio of expensive pet or "show" mice and breed them.

the trouble with that is that the fancy mice as they are called have much smaller clutches and they have them less often than lab mice, i breed labmice X fancy mice so i get the clutch size of the lab mice but the colours of the fancy mice which also helps when i sell as live pets to pet shops.

and no before anyone points it out, you would be unlikely to be able to sell dead mice as pets in a pet shop.

like i said in my original reply. corn snakes arent too picky. try breeding rats, gerbils, hamsters or any other small rodents. the initial investment might seem to be alot but it will pay for it self over time, especialy with it becoming harder to get feeder mice over there. you might have to feed live pinkies or fuzzie a couple times for it to get the taste for something different. hope this helps, good luck.

p.s. it boggles my mind that a government would step in and make it illegal to feed live. are there any political groups trying to stop snake trade over there?

BIG BROTHER :madeuce:

I wish you lived close to me! I came up with a sudden finacial disaster and cant afford a CO2 tank at the moment(I know there cheap but I am that broke) and my 'couple' of females are throwing babies at me like crazy. Who would have thought 3 first time mothers would all successfully raise over a dozen babies each.........:headbang:

But I got plenty!
