Where would I get a uth . . .

Where would I get a uth that lets me choose the temp. . at my local pet store I can only buy ones that just plug in and heat, and I hoping to get one for my new 38 gallon tank that lets me choose the temp it puts out.. Is that possible? Is there a web site or something where I can buy one..? Or a brand name, cause all I can find are these Repti Therm uth that just plug in and heat..
:crazy02:

For that, you will need to get a rheostat to control the temp. There is a thread in the forums that shows you how to build your own for like 6 dollars. I would get you the link, but I am at work and don't have the necessary time to find it. Try the search function or maybe someone else will post the link for you. Good Luck.

I do not know of any uth's that can be adjusted to regulate temperature. This is where either a rheostat or thermostat comes into play. A rheostat is basically a lamp dimmer, which regulates the amount of current fed to the uth in order to bring the temp to a desired temp. A thermostat is going to have a probe and a [digital] readout that works similar to a rheostat (as far as regulating the temp), yet thermostats cost more, but are generally more reliable and safer---'just set it and forget it'. Anyways, here's a link to a uth that stays at a constant 90, which is ~10-15 lower than most other uth's on the market.
Dragon's Lair Heat Mats

Those heatpads will not stay at 90 by themselves.. Every heating element needs to have a dimmer or thermostat in place. Those pads are the samething as a cobra UTH from T-Rex..

Thanks everyone for all the help! I think for now I'll probably just buy a heater, since that seems easier.. (i know.. Im lazy) But I am keeping this thread in my favorites if I ever decide to try making one.. so thanks for all the links... And I'll definatly be checking out that Ebay link since my local pet store is charging $40 for a 30-40 gallon heater. Rip Off! ... I know, they gotta make money somehow. . . which is funny because I just heard the other day that they are closing.. .due to money issues.. :shrugs: go figure..?

Thanks Again! :wavey:
