Which is cheaper?

Do you think it is cheaper in the long run to raise your own mice or to buy them frozen, say, off RodentPro?

how

Many snakes do you have?

I have 9 snakes and a couple other reptiles that take mice...for me its far cheaper to raise my own. But that doesn't mean doing so is cheap in itself....if you have 1,2, or even 3 snakes its probably cheaper to just buy frozen from rodentpro.com

Because needing only that many won't save you much since you have to not only buy the mice but maintain them when you are breeding your own....cages water bottles, food, shavings etc. :)

It really depends on the size of your collection (as bmm has already said), and how much you value your time.

For instance, I have approximately fifty snakes (would you believe no corns?), and I expect that number to jump dramatically at various times during the year.

While it may seem more economical for me to breed my own rats and mice, time is a precious commodity for me. For now, I feel that it's cheaper for me (after you factor in the time involved) to order in bulk rather than maintain my own rodent colonies.

Ive personally tried to raise my own mice... They are hard to take care of... you need to clean out their cage about 1 once every 2 weeks...or else the smell might kill you :D... taking care of mice is alot bigger chore then keeping snakes!!! theres a huge diffrence! It is cheaper to raise your own mice... But time to me is worth more then MONEY!!! trust me on this one! The time and effort just isnt worth it! I kept trying to breed my mice for about 3 months! then I looked on RodentPro and there it was pinkys for only 18 cents! I was like wow thats cheap compaired to the $1.50 I was paying for them at a petshop... IMHO

interesting

I only have one and he is my first.
My parents wouldn't let me breed my own mice if i wanted to, although when i move out in a year i won't have much money and i was curious to see what everyone else did to get their mice.

Thanks for the info
