i am willing to listen ive been asking and doin everything i beleive i should but is not that i dont care or im ignorant its just that i dont beleive in feeding dead animals to my snakes i feed them live cause that the way i do it ............ i apreciate all the thind this forum has done for me and has taught me but i just dont agree with something thats all i apreciate everyone looking out for my snakes for their well being but i learn from everyone else but i also learn from myself ........ no need to not write to this thread anymore ..... and please answer this what do i say that makes u sure that i wasnt ready to buy a snake ??

hmm

Lets see.

A. You had no clue that "instinct" is not something a snake losses or gains. It is inherit and cannot be taken away. This is a basic principle.
B. You used the above as a reason for feeding live prey. This alone is a major reason I believe you need to do more research.
C. Suggesting a python cannot be harmed by a mouse like depicted in the photo. This is simply untrue and with more research you would have learned about mice and their abilities to hurt your snake.
D. You say your tanks are "eanr windows" this is a mistake! Drafts from windows, open or not can cause respitory infections, and on a hot day the temp in spots of a tank can SKYROCket and kill a snake.

I could go on and on. Bottom line, I believe you need to do more research and if you want to feed live, fine, at least have a REAL educated reason to. Not some guess work you "think" is right for your snake.

your very smart and i respect that . but com'on i cant spoil my snake either by killing his mice its a dirty job but i bet they love doin it . its just the way i feed my snake I apologize if anyone got mad i did not intend for this to happen at all i admit i got carried away and started assuming things ..... i made another mistake ... but i made no mistake in telling everyone how i feed my snakes and how i feel about the whole killing mice situation ...

no

No one is mad.

This forum is for discussion.

I am not discussing this anymore. I cannot discuss why a snake is not being spoiled by eating pre-killed. You cannot be serious after reading everyones posts.

you know, if you glance at the poll, you'll notice this was about PINKIES

now when was the last time you saw a pinky take a snake out?

Yes, I prekill all mice fed to my adults with a quick smack...having pried a mouse's mouth open so that it wouldn't do damage to a snake, I make sure the buggers are on their way out if not already dead when I toss them in as dinner

hi

Lady Chaos-

The method you describe is the perfect method for feeding freshly killed mice. I am glad you shared.

He was mentioned feeding older mice to an older snake, not pinks in a post further down. Thats where the concern comes in

Just thought I'd add my opinion

SnakesRus007: You said that one of the reasons that you feed live prey is because your mum wouldn't like a bag of dead rodents in the freezer. Well, it seems to me that you should have cleared this up with her before you bought a snake and, if she still objected, perhaps given up on the idea of corns because, despite what you might think, feeding live mice to any snake IS dangerous, especially when you consider that they are in a small tank and can't escape.
Also, you said that you feed live mice because this is what they do in nature. Well, it's dangerous in nature too!! I'm sure that most corns are actually thankful for the ease that is f/t mice.
Also, I don't really like to say this, but it seems to me that you didn't research the animal enough before buying one. Before the purchasing of ANY animal, a huge amount of reading must be done to ensure than you provide everything it needs and KEEP IT SAFE. This is especially true for exotics. I think you should browse the web and read many, many care sheets, articles and books; that's what I did and I'm still learning- and I love it!!

first off my first corn was a suprise present for me i had no ideaa i was goin to get oneas soon as i got it i started reading about them in corn websites that said what hey eat where they live etc ....... i learned about people feeding dead mice when i joined this forum so i read about it and i never bothered to change the way i fed the snakes cause i thought i was doin it just fine ..... the local petshop feeds live RATS to boas and they said its very rare for a mouse to really hurt or kill a snake so i figured everything was ok ............ i didnt know mice were bagged and frozen because i didnt look for that cause a website i was reading on didnt say anything about that in the feeding link ........
i kept doing it that way and i got used to it and thought of how they ate in the wild so i thought it was ok ...............

Do you have the Corn Snake Manual? I'm 99% sure that you don't. Get it. It's definitely worth the price and I have a feeling it wouldn't hurt you to learn more about corns.

Pet shops don't exactly have the greatest reputations. Just because they do something one way doesn't mean it's right or good. It's NOT really rare for a live dinner to harm/kill the diner.

You say you didn't know about prekilled mice before and that's why you began to feed live rodents? Well, many people have told you about it recently and why it's better than live, and you have opted to ignore everything and keep feeding your snakes live prey. You can't use that as an excuse.

ima try prekilled mice from now on and if i can deal with it ill continue to do so and ill do it only for my snakes not for no one else except my baby amel she will continue to feed on live prey until she is big enouph for small mice
