Who/What got you started?

Like most here, I've always been obsessed with reptiles. I remember going on a hike with my parents and being shown a common garter snake, and for some reason, from then on I was hooked!

My dad is scared of snakes, so the passion has been building up since I moved out of my parents' house! I'm chomping at the bit for the day I get to take my first snake home (which should be next Wednesday!!!)

Held a big Burmese around my neck when I was 10 (reckon it was small by Burmese standards- but it was monstrous to me!). The fascination simmered all through grade and middle school, when I'd see Black Rat's in the woods where we camped. Then in HS, my bio teacher had a damn zoo in the back of our room, and part of that zoo was two snakes- a nasty Black Rat Snake hatchling and a sweet as could be California Kingsnake hatchling. Holding that Cal. King was the most amazing thing ever, and since then (about 10 years!) I've always wanted a snake. Now I have my own CR, and soon, my own house, so I now have my first (but not my last or only) snake!

I saw my first snake when I was 8 or 9 years old, a common Garter snake. A family member took me to the library to check out a field guide to confirm what it was :) I was totally hooked when I discovered the variety of species which could be found nearby (10 or 12 common ones) I found 4 before the end of the summer... the rest is history. I spent alot of time reading library books in those days ... Oi!! long time ago, lol.
