From what I can see in the pic, it looks like the Orchid bark chips that my local shop sells. I used them for a little while, many moons ago, but didn't like the way my snakes started to look dirty all the time, the dust from the chips got under the scales a bit, so I changed to Aspen
Looks like the stuff I use all the time - it's easier to get hold of than aspen in the UK. I've never had a problem with it as far as the snakes go, so see how it pans out. You might find that it works OK for you.
If it doesn't smell "pine-y" then it's fine. A pet store especially should be selling the right thing (never a guarantee I know!).
If it has dust try screening it. I use Reptibark and it has some loose dust with it that gets on my snake's nose. Before I put it in the viv I shake it on a piece of an old screen door, most of the dust comes off.
dont worry now i just got in and hes escaped, i cant find him anywhere im guessing hes gone into to wall cavity where i found a small hole, i stand no chance of finding him so im giving up :'(
That's terrible! Never lose hope though. I have read a lot of lost and found threads and have personally lost and found one myself, so i have faith that it is possible to recover them. If you do a search on lost and found you should find some good threads with suggestions on baiting them and/or tracking them down. Good luck!
There are threads here that show they sometimes don't go far. I think the temp outside is in the 50's right about now? It seems like it would stay near or in the house.
When i lost Rio last week, i found him about 6 foot away from his viv, he looked so comfy curled up on the carpet under the cable tv box, nice & warm too.
Marg.
what im guessing is he got out and went through a hole in the wall next to the chimney, currently trying the pinkie bottle trap and flour around my room (as its the warmest in the house) searched top to bottom of my room 3 times now,and still no sign :S
