1) :wavey: hey guys i was at petco and they said they are getting some corns tommarow and i was gonna get one,mny moms friend is a vet and she said she willing to do a fecial check or w/e and all the corns are 50 dollars each
which beets shipping anyday.lol yea the one i saw looks like a reverse okeetee which is #1 on my top 10 list.so im happy abooot that.
2) :-offtopic what are the basics of breeding feeder mice becuz i bought 3 today one male and two females and i would like to know what to do.
thank you.

should be plenty of reptile shows in TX to find a healthier, nicer corn for half that price, if not less (some of shows here in oregon have had $5 hatchlings).

as for the mice
keep 'em together and they'll start breeding. Breeding mice is really only needed if you have many snakes to constantly feed.

but here's a tip...
get some vanilla extract (real or imitation doesn't matter) and use about 2-3 teaspoons per gallon, or a few drops per drinking bottle... this will greatly reduce the stink mice produce. The vanilla will be passed through their digestive systems resulting in 50% less odor from their stools and urine

Nice find! Although it is a little expensive (especially if it's a hatchling), price doesn't matter if it's healthy! :D I've got a PETCO corn snake who's never refused a meal except in shed, even with no acclimation period, tehe (but don't go by me, leave it alone for the first few days to be safe). I don't think you need to go to an expo to get one, unless you'd rather pay less and know what gender it is without popping or probing it yourself, etc.

I now only purcase my snakes from breeders, but if I were to see a beauty at PetCo I don't think I could hold back, I have 2 PetCo snakes in my collection, an Amel and the most STUNNING Ghost, they have never had any health issues and have the best personality and are great eaters.

Anyway, can't wait to see your new snakes, and CONGRATS!

There is a specific sub-forum dedicated to feeders. For best results, post your questions regarding breeding mice there.

Second, please use the spellcheck or scan your post to catch the obvious errors before you submit. It makes everyone much more happy to help:)

Good luck in your snake search:)

Fifty's nothing, lol. It gets a lot worse than that. If you ever get into ball pythons, you should know that the leucistic ball python (completely white) costs at least $200,000. It's a lot, I know.

Fifty's still okay for a corn snake, though. Check out Serpenco (the admin of this site's web site) to see prices on corn snakes.

I have tried using water bowls once, when I moved some of my mice and I regretted it for the 2 days I had to use it because of the mess the mice made of the water bowl. Very gross and stank too - even though I cleaned it out several times. Best just to use the hanging bottles.

If you do get the snake from PetCo, be sure to keep an eye out for mites. All 3 of my PetCo snakes had mites when I brought them home. Pain to get rid of. Other then that, if you are happy with the snake, it's in good health, and you have the $$ then go for it. (But you might get a wider variety to shoose from at a show with less $$ and a better chance for a parasite free & healthy snake.)

Good luck either way!

Jenn

$50 is a lot to pay for a Petco corn....especially a normal or amel.
the corns i've seen at our petco are very tiny and usually not in the best of health. and the staff is never sure of their feeding habits. i swear i think they just toss a bunch of pinkies in the tank. and i dont like that they cohabitat their corns.
the pet store that i got Blaze from keeps their corns individually in deli cups and they keep track of when they've eaten.
at an expo or a mom and pop pet store they can tell you what they've been feeding them (live, frozen/thawed), how many times they've shed, what sex they are...and usually their corns are half the price of what you would pay at Petco. for $50 you could get a really stunning corn snake.

Serpenco or Cornutopia are my personal favs...they have both been breeding corns for years and you know you're getting your money's worth.
and a Kathy Love or Rich Z corn beats a Petco corn hands down!

I had considered buying my snakes from a pet store, but then started cruising around the internet for breeders.

For less than $95 I got 2 snakes shipped overnight in March: a snow ($25) and a normal het snow ($20). Here's why I did it: I figured that I spent the same amount per-snake as if I went to a pet store, but now I know the genetic background of each snake, the gender of each, their ages, their health, and if they are problem feeders.

Totally worth the shipping costs in my opinion.

Breeders are the way to go look around the internet in add sites, you can get good deals from private breeders as well a pro breeders. I got a Okeetee het amel bloodred for 30 shipped and an Amelbloodred outcrossed for 40 from private breeders online. Shop around a bit it's high breeding season you should find alot of good deals.

Where in Texas are you located? I have an Amel forsale for half the price of your petco corn. If you are somewhere close to San antonio and Austin, I would gladly meet you somewhere. And, you will know the exact genetics, feeding history, how many times it has shed, etc. and you will have me to contact if you ever have problems.

im in katy houston area not that close to san antonio..and im going to the new braunfels snake farm for the 2nd time its a blast tho some of there snakes are in bad condition like they have there shedded skin crusted over there eyes its horrible but i told the guy and he removed it.

yea, it's an intersting place to be, but some of the snakes on display are in really bad shape.
