The person who shipped the snake is a very reputable breeder. I've had snakes shipped in from SMR (Don Soderberg) and they are always packaged properly, the snakes have arrived healthy, so I really don't see it to be much of a concern.
As someone pointed out, the hobby is small enough that someone who has poor shipping practices is exposed rather quickly.

I might add, Don is also the author of a very good book on corn snake husbandry. You might want to check it out. Also keep an eye out for his upcoming book he is currently writing.
