Yawn!

So, I swear I just saw my snake yawn. It wasn't like he was resetting his jaw or anything, it absolutely looked like he was yawning. I dunno, maybe he is trying to loosen up the skin around his head so he can shed, but has anyone else seen this? It was pretty funny.

From what a recall, snakes can be seen "yawning" as they get older and bigger. From what I understand, it's just a way to stretch their jaws. Keep an eye out though and make sure these aren't the warning signs of a respiratory infection.

I highly doubt it is a respiratory infection, but I will keep that in mind. He is getting bigger now that I've been feeding him hoppers. I bet it has something to do with his impending shed too.

Oh lord, I've seen my snake yawn, it's adorable. I'm pretty sure it's just a normal thing for them, sort of like it is for us. They may not yawn the same way, but I'm sure you can call it yawning.

I love to see snakes yawn. I've only seen it happen once... And it's adorable!

When I saw my girl yawn, she hadn't eaten in at least a few days (she was actually to the point of exploring), certainly did not have a respiratory infection, and I'm pretty sure she wasn't in shed... But, it was in the early morning, and she'd only just come out of hiding (and, presumably, woken up). Though, it could very plausibly have a lot to do with the shed... =)

I see my two guys yawn sometimes, when the light goes out and they get ready to stray around. I think it's to stretch their muscles to be prepared for a catch.
It looks fantastic, but I wasn't able to get a photo jet.

I love it when my little baby yawns!!! It's so cute! I've seen him do it quite a few times, occasionally after a meal or getting a drink. :] I wish I had my camera ready all those times!

Oh good! I'm glad I'm not the only one who has a yawning snake! He did it when I shut the lights off in the room and I was peeking into his log hide. He shed shortly after, so I bet he was stretching his muscles!

I happened to look up one day and catch my Sweetie yawning. She had eaten about two days before and was finally emerging from her coconut hut. She slowly peeked her head out, looked around, yawned, and started to explore her viv. So cute!!

It's normal. Usually happens after eating, to reset the jaw, but I have seen them yawn at other times too.

I was just watching TV in my room, and saw my corn snake yawn. I actually see them yawn quite often, and I wouldn't consider it a sign of illness by any means, unless of course their mouth remains opened. He's also about to shed, so that could be because his airways are partially limited due to loose shed, or to stretch the skin so he can begin shedding, I'm not sure.
I've seen all of my snakes yawn at one time or another, some more than others, and it does resemble a human yawn, in the sense that it seems relieving for them.
