Congrats.
To your handling question - babies can be VERY fast, especially when they're nervous. I never take my fingers off the babies snakes because believe me you WILL lose them if you're not keeping a close eye! :grin01: I'm much more relaxed with the adult snakes - they are free to travel over me as they please, and sometimes I won't have my hands on them at all - they'll be round my neck, or going down my sleeve or something. That's not to say you shouldn't keep an eye on them, but I find with babies, if they shoot off, there's nothing to grab on to. It's far harder to lose a bigger snake.
It depends on the personality of your snake though to some degree. My caramel Connor is a yearling, and isn't tiny, but he's a very nervous snake and he will dart off given half a chance. I'm
gradually relaxing around him so we can progress together - I will now let him travel up my arms free from my fingers, but no further than that.
If this is your first snake btw, I'd recommend a vivarium over a tub. Vivariums are far nicer for pet snakes as they allow you to observe the animal - tubs don't offer much in the way of visibility. I consider them more for breeders, personally. A small tank isn't needed, either; so long as you supply loads of hiding spots. When I got Connor as a baby he went straight in to a 3-foot viv and he's been fine.
If you do go for a viv, expect the price to be a bit higher. I would expect to pay around £200 for the whole thing - tank, snake and setup. Of course it depends how nice you want it; the more fancy things you buy, the more pennies you spend
