Star Trek!!! What did YOU think?

Wow!!! I never dreamed that there would be this many people interested in Star Trek!!!! Kathy, I too used some of Spock's philosophy to "survive" part of my HS years (I was quite the nerd... LOL).

JennRose... wow!! Very kewl that you were part of this!!! This isn't the one that you mentioned being part of before, is it???? The next time I watch it, I'll be looking for your work! LOL.

Cflaguy, I really love ALL of the series except for Enterprise... I just couldn't get into it... BUT DS-9... I thought that was the best out of all of them. The only thing I couldn't really stand was what they did to Jadzia (I hated that!!) and Sisko at the end...

BTW, did any of you "miss" the Goldsmith theme on this movie??? I was waiting for it... BUT was ecstatic that they went to the Alexander Courage theme instead. Quite the surprise for me. LOL.

I'm impressed by how many have responded thus far... and am still waiting on ONE responder... Lynnea!!! Where are you?? LOL.

LOL, okay, I'm here! Yes, I might be the *biggest* ST fan here--I'm actually "acting second in command" of the USS Alaric (our "ship" is our club) based in Asheville, and also the home of the beginning of Starfleet. Yes, YOU TOO can join Starfleet right now!

And as for my opinion of the movie, it is AWESOME!! I've seen it twice, will be going again with some other club members Saturday, lol! I pretty much am right on the same page as Kathy and Fred. I loved the way they brought in characterizations and small bits from the original series, and was pretty much blown away by the fact that they created a whole new time line/alternate reality. Yes, it was a good excuse to start fresh, but I thought it was done very well and they made it appeal to a broad cross-section of people. They've given ST new life--YEA!! I also enjoy reading the novels, so now we have a whole new door open to that, too.

A client of my husband was working on the film too, but I dared not ask any questions when I found out--it was mum at the time! Man, that was hard to keep my mouth shut... So COOL JennRose, you working on the film--sigh!!

BTW, Leonard Nimoy will be at Dragon*Con in Atlanta Labor Day weekend--just an fyi.

Can't wait to see the movie in IMAX! Really, this is just a great, fun movie!

There you go, Fred, my opinion for what it's worth!

I had kind of forgotten the whole "new time line" thing, until I was discussing it with a friend. He does movie reviews and is very connected with the stuff going on in movies, and knew the whole script quite a while ago (but kept quiet about it, thankfully!). He reminded me about the time line, so I guess they won't have to have a silly dream sequence. He said it is because they want start anew with the next movies (or even new series, who knows?) without having to constantly scrutinize every old episode to make sure everything is consistent. I guess that makes sense. But it changes my whole ST universe, lol!

jennrosefx - that is so cool that you got to work on this show. ST has been a part of my life from childhood, so it has more significance than most any other series or movie. I have always wanted to go to one of the ST conventions, but never got around to it. But I DID go to the Star Trek Experience in Las Vegas - awesome!

Lynnea finally answers! LOL. Glad you did! Very kewl about your club too... wish there were one around here!

If I haven't already said it, I was also blown away by the alternate reality spin. Now I can go to the next one without worrying about anything! LOL. I'm VERY excited for the next installment (supposedly already in the works!). I really can't wait!

What I think was funny... and this IS A SPOILER!!!! (of sorts)...

DON'T LOOK

IF YOU

HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE

YET!!!!!!

... is that years ago, I seem to remember Leonard Nimoy say something about "Kirk getting all the girls". LOL. Needless to say, the "transport pad" scene was HILARIOUS!!!

LOL--yeah, I know what you mean!! Whoa....!!

That was my feeling exactly!! Our beloved original universe is still there, but here we go with a whole new world--whee!!

I thought it was great, much better than I had expected.

JJ Abrams now has a license to print money.

LOL. Thanks for the link, Lynnea! I'm so glad that I haven't heard a "negative" review about it yet.

I really think that the "sky is the limit" now... "There are always possibilities..."

I feel I have betrayed my Sci-Fi roots... I may be in deep trouble with another side of sci-fi-dom... I know I'm in trouble with my hubby... I grew up watching and loving Star Wars, saw each of the new trilogy on opening day, even saw the last one at the midnight showing in a costume. I never really got into Star Trek. Kinda liked Deep Space 9 and the original Star Trek of course but always loved Star Wars more.

I have a confession to make...

I loved the movie!! Hubby and I went to see if over the weekend, first time we have gone out alone in a long time. We went mostly to scope out the new IMAX that opened recently, first one in Maine. Totally awesome movie! It was witty and funny and everything! I loved how every character got to use their cliche line and the effects were amazing, especially on the huge screen. Loved it Loved it Loved it!! I was so thrilled that we keep going out to eat at Burger King just so I can collect the glasses. I only need Kirk...

Oh, and I wore a Star Wars shirt! lol

i never saw any of the old star trek movies, but i loved it. My girlfriend and i saw it last Saturday, she fell asleep but i would love to see it again.

Did anyone BUY the DVD/Blue Ray for Star Trek? I don't yet have a Blue Ray (nevermind a HD TV)... but I'm watching ST AGAIN (probably the 5th time since I bought it.

Anyone change their mind about it since watching the DVD? Like it? Hate it?

Sorry to resurrect a "dead" thread, but I just had to ask! LOL.

I got the dvd for my son and have watched it once. I thought it was decent. I will watch it again. Although I have watched some of all the Trek series I would not call myself a Trekkie. More of a sci-fi fan in general.

My wife and I loved it!

There are so many things in the movie that you will miss if you aren't familiar with the series.

I remember when the series started. It was sooooo different and high tech. Watching the original series now it seems really hokey! LOL

We watched the Blue Ray DVD at a friend's house, and I thought it was very impressive! I have seen the movie 3 times now, and liked it better each time! I am sure I will eventually buy the DVD and watch it again sometime.

I just recently got a Blu-ray player and joined Netflix. Star Trek was one of the first movies I got. I love it!!

I watched the original series and TNG. I was kind of worried about the movie. But it lived up to the hype. I plan on buying it now.

In Hi def the visuals are stunning and the sound is amazing!

LOL. Believe it or not, Rich, I have the soundtrack on my PSP... to listen to anywhere I go. :D

I love Trek first... and almost ALL other Sci-Fi in general. I hope it grows on you more and more. LOL.

I hear ya! While I love the old series, I often find myself nodding off and having to "rewind the DVR" to catch it again. LOL. Hokey yes, but for some reason, it STILL hits a nerve in me... must be the GEEK part of me.

You're like me, Kathy. I love it more and more too. I'm just impressed with the way JJ had something for both new fans and the old fans.

I know some old fans will hate anything new... but I like the idea that TREK will live on and NOT die a miserable death... kinda like the James Bond series seems to be.... Blech right now. :(

I'm a SW guy, but I'm well enough versed in ST. I liked the new ST movie, but the fact that it throws away all existing canon disturbs me. It didn't have to be that way.
