Following on from Mike's 'castles' thread, I thought it might be nice to show each other where we live! I'm thinking we could all show the general area and any sights we visit regularly.
So, to kick off, here's the estuary/country park, about 1/2 an hour's walk from me, where I go birdwatching and walk Rosie.

More of the estuary. It's where my local river, the Medway, turns into tidal flats and marshes.

About 5 minutes from me, (I pass the entrance on my walk to work) ther's an area of open chalk grassland called 'The Great Lines'. Once important for the defence of the Naval Dockyard, this was where I learnt to ride on the ponies that grazed there when I was little. Also caught many slow worms and common lizards, and learnt the fearsome pastime of cardboard sledging with my cousins. Now it's been designated a site of nature conservation interest and is bidding for world heritage site status.

This is the closest I get to a castle..."the history museum at the castle", which always features a Harry Houdini exhibit. I think it used to be a masonic temple.

This is the 'Hearthstone House' museum, it was the first residence in the world powered by a hydroelectric station (or something like that), located on the Fox River. I drive by it a lot when I take the downtown route to work.

Here's an aerial view of part of the Fox River. It's an old pic though, they redid the bridge, and there is a roundabout at the intersection in the lower right now. I actually live only about a mile or so away from Telulah park (which has a great disc golf course). I traverse this bridge often when going downtown, or taking the non-highway route to the west side of town.

A little bit south of here is Oshkosh (yes, home of Oshkosh, b'gosh). Also home to the EAA airventure museum, which during one week in the summer hosts the EAA Airventure airshow, which also makes it the busiest airport in the world during that time (Wittman Airport).

My hometown of New London, WI doesn't have much, but due to the large Irish population they do change the name of the town for a week around St. Patricks day. The 'American Water Spanial' was developed in the area. With 2 rivers it's a fisherman's town. Has lots of swampy areas too.

Thanks Heather! That's exactly it, something other people might never see if you didn't post the pictures! (My urban area is really grotty, but I'll still get out snapping away for this thread!)

I haven't explored much of my new area yet and have no pics to show. Trying to dig through some of my older photos of my previous town/area to share...

I guess I will do Madison, Wi too, since I lived there for a few years, and prefer it to Appleton actually.

Obligatory view of the capitol building, largest granite dome in the world, and only 3 feet shorter than the US Capitols dome. This was taken in the middle of the street near where I used to live

Downtown is on an isthmus. Lake Mendota on top, Lake Monona on the bottom. Capitol building is seen. Monona terrace and convention center on Lake Monona. Lots of governmental buildings and condos.

In 2006 they had "cows on parade" and had tons of cow statues all over the city, which they later auctioned off. These ones were on the bike path I used on Lake Monona.

Here is a bird effigy on the University of Wisconsin campus. There used to be a lot of indian effigies on campus but many of them were destroyed. This one has a sidewalk running through the wing. It's a bird

The UW arboretum was a fun place I liked to go, very picturesque with prairies, waterways, forests, etc...

J9 this is a great idea. I don't have pictures of just scenery so you will have to look at my family as well. These pictures are all with in 50 miles of my home. The elevation changes from 2000 feet to 8000 feet so flora and fauna are varied.

This is the Red Mountain, I can see it right now out my office window. There is normally not a water fall here. We had a hard rain that caused the water fall and then a big wind came up and blew it over the mountain.



This is SWMBO about a mile from my house.



My family spends every possible moment with wet shoes. This is some of the places we do that.
