Uniformly Enforced Rules and Regulations?

All words can be used on British TV and none are banned.....
So do I get a special dispensation due to lack of UK censorship.
I think you should stick to BBC Radio guidelines, which are rather stricter and surprisingly detailed. A friend of mine is in a band which has some rather "direct" lyrics and had to attend what he termed a BBC "Profanity Workshop" prior to their live appearance, so that dubious lyrics could be raked through and reworked where appropriate.

The usual suspects were banned outright, but I was quite surprised one of the words that they allowed through, and others that were OK dependent on context.

I also made a mental note to pay more attention to their lyrics in future!

If that was the case how did the BBC2 programme, Balderdash and piffle, get aired a 8pm an they looked at the origins of some real tasty words that could earn me a perma ban.... I think it depends on the programme, what words are used.... If it's a gritty drama then all words are fair game for airing...

I'm surprised the euphemism for a person born to unmarried parents occurs so often in the forums. I could do without that, personally.

I've noticed that over the last year or two myself. Privately, do whatever you're comfortable with, but on the public forum, discretion is the better part of valour, as they say :)

If that was the case
It was indeed the case.

Could the radio and TV rules have been different? The radio show in question was an early evening popular music show, with an audience not likely to expect the sort of language that might expand their vocabulary. Perhaps with "Balderdash and Piffle", the nature of the programme might make 'military language' more acceptable in that context.

I think a lot of the restrictions (or lack thereof) are around context.

So calling someone immature is profane, but piss and damn is not...

In that case...I think David should go himself. I am tired of that little bastard.

I don't think that is profane. Maybe you do. So you are saying that's okay, since not everyone would see it as profane...?

So you are saying since "some people" don't find piss and damn profane that since "some people" don't think and bastard are profane that I am in the clear right?

Whatever, I am out. David, remember when you finally decide you are just can't handle it...slice down the road not across the street douche.
As long as we're being profane and rude... **** you. Suicide is not funny, and self-harm should be taken seriously. Telling someone to kill themselves.... there's a special place in hell for that.

EDIT: I am fully expecting and even grateful for an infraction for this post. There is a reason profanity is banned... but I have some spare room for a point or two, especially to sacrifice for a subject so close to home.

He didn't say anything about suicide. The word he put in there was just deleted, use your imagination- it wasn't about suicide.

Oops... I thought there were adults on this forum... Kinda surprised this thread has gotten 5 pages worth of replies.

Is your response helpful and courteous? Does it facilitate de-escalation where people can step back and talk to one another as real people and neighbors?

Each reply we make either strengthens or weakens the community. And, each day we get up and meet the day we have another chance to bond and strengthen and better our responses and friendships. We all fall down but we can all get up.

From back in my hippie days:

Make love, not war :)

Well said, Lucille, and worth a rep. :) Sadly I need to spread it 'round again.

'Slice down the road.........' is a referral to cutting the veins in the forearms for maximum bloodloss. No imagination required.

I second that Lil. When I read that, I was incredibly offended. It most definitely was a reference to suicide. Not something I feel anyone should be joking about.

I dont think you really deserved an infraction either.. But I am sure Nanci has her reasons and is a great moderator... Now... Also... David saying his snake is full of piss and vinegar I also dont see anything wrong with.. David can be a pain in the butt, yes.. We ALL know that all to well... But he has been trying and is a lot better than he was.. And hopefully will continue.. Its ok for you to say that you dont agree with him keeping the WC snake... But to me it seemed like more of a personal attack against him... Lots of people have WC snakes.. You can be against it and voice your opinion if youd like, or you can just bite your tongue and keep your beliefs and just never keep them yourself...
IDK... This whole thing is just blown way outta proportion..

I did not understand that reference either. That changes the entire statement. If that is the way this fellow handles disputes I just as soon see him gone.

At work it's one of the ways we categorise the seriousness of a self-harm/ suicide attempt. Much more likely to be a successful attempt. Much harder to stop the bleeding and repair the damage if the person is found before they've bled out.

Well. Thanks, Janine. I did not know that and feel like I should have.

But, I interpreted it as some kind of directions as to how best get nailed by a car.
Which would be suicide. So...still not very nice.

Good lord in heaven...we're talking about suicide--and should not be.

Buck up, Josh. I've been infracted for profanity twice, and I lived. And it was not subtle or implied...LOL...it was gold-plated.
Besides, I think being mean-spirited is much more serious than naughty words, anyway. Which would answer the OP perfectly, IMHO.

Sorry Eric, I know all sorts of nasty stuff I wish I didn't because of my job. That's why I try to be a nicer, better person and spend my free time out in the fresh air around dogs and horses and enjoy my life.

A FATHER with two kids says something like that to a KID?????
OK, David can be an obnoxious little git sometimes, but he is not all bad. He is passionate about this hobby and portrays this hobby in a favorable light, and he can be really sweet when he wants to be. Sometimes I really enjoy talking to him, believe it or not! Besides, he's somebody's baby. There is something inherantly wrong when a father says something like that to somebody's baby....

Very Very well said. I couldn't have said it better myself.

I do have a few question about bans.
When you are banned, can you still view posts but just not post yourself?
Are you banned by user name, or by some techy thing that bans your IP address?
I'm just curious about this. No reason really.
