Calls to boycott Arizona are spreading like a virus

I agree totally, If you boycott a place and you don't take into consideration that you are receiving 25% of your electricity from that place... Be prepared to be up a creek without a paddle..
IMHO, it just shows how completely reactionary LA's council members and their ilk are... Kinda like biting the hand that feeds you... THINK before you act. Geez. But I guess that's too much to ask for? :madeuce:

They just want to be known as the most "politically correct" place in the US. Funny how it just makes LA look stupid.:roflmao:

Nothing much surprises me from that state. Kind of like when Berkeley boycotted the US Marine Corp! :headbang: :shrugs:

I like that AZ is trying to prove, once again, it has some balls. I just wonder how they will retaliate against all the other places boycotting their state. :nyah:

Just when you thought LA was the stupid one, the San Fran Board of Supervisors wants to give illegal immigrants the right to vote in school elections! :headbang::headbang::headbang:

Geez... I shouldn't be suprised by this... they've been looking at Driver's Licences for illegals for years.

Here in AZ, we had bus drivers picking up kids AT THE BORDER to take them to our public schools... The kids were using addresses to a closed down hotel (and one other place) as residency. Needless to say, that school is expected to reimburse the local government for all the money paid out for those illegal students. Just idiotic.

The students may not have been illegals, though, Fred. A lot of illegals have their babies in the USA, making the baby a citizen.

Having lived in border states for much of my life, I'm very familiar with that practice. However, from what I heard, that isn't what was happening. I'll see if I can find it and see what came of that incident.

You were right, Betsy. According to the article, MOST of the kids are legal citizens. The problem is that the parents and the children LIVE in Mexico where they do not have to pay property taxes that fund the public school system. I DO appreciate that some of the parents are paying the tuition to have their kids in school... I have NO problem with that. It's the "free ride" mentality that is again, oh so AGGRAVATING!

So you were right and I stand corrected. :)

That wouldn't fly in Ohio. They either have to live in the district or to open enroll they have to live in an Ohio district that touches the district they attend. Time for AZ to close that loophole too. :shrugs:

That's the way it is SUPPOSED to be... they were using addresses for closed motels or unimproved lots as addresses within the school district. All the while, they're actually living in Mexico with their parents.

I see. Yet more blatant disregard for our laws, rules and regulations. :shrugs:

Yes, bad, bad kids for wanting to go to school... someone needs to do something about that!

Nope but bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad parents for raising their kids with the life lesson that it is OK to break the laws and rules of another country as long as it personally benefits you!!!!!!!! The ends do not justify or validate the means! And instilling corrupt values does nothing to help the whole situation or relationship between the countries and their citizens! :shrugs:

LOL. It isn't about the kids wanting to go to school... it is about doing it the RIGHT WAY... the LEGAL WAY... the HONORABLE WAY.

NOT the way that mooches off of everyone else. They could legally go to MEXICAN public schools... You WILL note that I had NO problem with those legal kids whose parents live in Mexico but went ahead and paid the tuition for their kids. THAT is the right way to do things. It is those that MOOCH off of the American/Arizonan tax payer that I have issue with.

Geez...

The kids are AMERICANS, trying to be part of the American culture and not their parents' culture. I agree that it sucks that the parents aren't paying property taxes to help fund schools, but at the same time, we can't turn our backs on American kids because their parents don't have HOW TO do it the correct thing (live here, pay property taxes, etc.)
People may argue that the correct thing, then, would be for the kids to go to school in Mexico, but why would they want to do that? American schools are so much better, and kids will be learning about American history (instead of Mexican history), for example.
Besides, doesn't the government help a lot of Americans who don't pay any form of taxes anyway? :shrugs:

Where does it stop, then??? When has the American Tax Payer paid enough? 60%? 70%??? 80%?

You also can't tell me that they don't know HOW to do the correct thing... are you saying they're idiots? I give them credit at least when I say they have the smarts enough to KNOW they're mooching off of the American Tax Payer and people like you who think that whoever needs a "free ride" should get one no matter the cost.

As for trying to be part of the American Culture... Are these the SAME kids who wave the MEXICAN flag at the protest rally? Who do they owe "allegiance" to? America which is providing them a FREE education? Or where they live.

This is one of the biggest sticking points to me in this whole illegal immigration mess. When people come here LEGALLY, they swear allegiance to THIS country... it is mandatory. They become *insert country/ethnicity*-AMERICANS. The vast majority of illegal immigrants still hold allegiances to their former countries (you'll NOTE that I did NOT say MEXICO as I KNOW there are illegals here from other countries).

Well, that's why we need to fix the immigration system. Currently, the right way, the legal way, the honorable way sometimes simply can't be done because families are torn apart by citizenship. American kids are protected by our government while their Mexican parents are harassed (in your state).

I agree with your entire post Fred, I just wanted to comment on this sentence.
