does anyone feel weird about feeding f/t ?

I find it much weirder that my two cats, who in nature would hunt and kill live prey, eat kibble in a bowl. Kibble is bizarre to me. It bears no resemblance to actual carnivore food.

I have seriously thought about starting my next cat on f/t. Then I wouldn't have to buy cat food at all, just large orders of f/t! It would be easier. ;)

Now that is seriously weird Betsy. Don't tell your neighbors.

What? That I do the zombie mouse dance for cats too? :roflmao:

I have heard from 1 person on a cat list who feeds f/t to her cats. She started off doing raw whole foods, and her cat passed up dinner once to eat a wild mouse it had caught so she switched to f/t. For real.

I will say people are a little put off when they come into my house, and I have a dead mouse floating in a cup of warm water, on my kitchen counter. Then I get raised eyebrows :D

You should see their eyebrows when you have a hundred dead mice and some rats floating in the kitchen sink.

Hey forum,

Hi, im really new! I was wondering if anyone felt weird about the whole frozen mice feeding practice. I was telling some non-herp owning friends about how I feed my corn snake, and I was basically told that how I was feeding the snake was weird (putting the snake into a container, thawing a frozen mouse in a cup, putting the mouse into the container with tongs and finally closing the lid on the container to so the snake wont escape). Reading that, it does kind've seem like a lot of weird stuff to do to for a snake, does anyone feel like doing this is stigmatizing in a way? Im kinda ashamed to say I warm-up dead mice and hand feed it to a snake in a small container, no matter how much I love the snake....so basically, does anyone else feel this way? :shrugs:

I don't feel it's weird at all.

I mean...half the time this is how humans eat:

step 1: buy cardboard box
step 2: put cardboard box in freezer
step 3: remove cardboard box from freezer
step 4: open and remove plastic tray from cardboard box...slit hole in plastic film covering
step 5: put plastic tray into microwave
step 6: heat plastic tray for a determined amount of time
step 7: remove plastic film cover and eat whatever you find in the plastic tray.

The other half of the time goes like this:

step 1: yeah I'll take a number 4 with a coke.

So in short, be yourself. Besides, how can anyone prove you're weird when we don't have a solid definition of normal yet? I wouldn't judge if you quality checked your pinkies by having one yourself before feeding your snake. I probably wouldn't kiss you right after, but I wouldn't judge you.

Also, don't let me near the forums before I've had my coffee. This is what happens. :crazy02:

I've honestly thought of cookie mice and eating them. They are a delicacy in some places! :D

Oh I've done things with my snakes that are a lot weirder than that.

And you just leave at that? Don't say things like that to someone with an overactive imagination.

Tell that to this teenager. X_X

I have seriously thought about starting my next cat on f/t. Then I wouldn't have to buy cat food at all, just large orders of f/t! It would be easier. ;)

Same here, but that's because he's throwing up all the time.

I thought it was a little weird at first storing dead mice in my freezer, but then I realized I already have dead mutilated chicken, pig, and cow in my freezer. So really, what's a few mice in sealed bags in their own storage box? ;)

Nah. Not really anything weird about feeding f/t. Although, I don't particularly enjoy it being said that I'm a masochist because I've fed my snake live.

That would be a sadist. A masochist would feed himself to the snake.

;D I'm quoting what was said.

Either way. I'm neither. I don't really enjoy the broad generalization. Certainly, there are some people who do get pleasure out of feeding live. The vast majority simply see it as feeding their snake and get no enjoyment out of it

Well it is an important distinction. You see SWMBO is a sadist. I am a masochist. That is why we have been married for 40 years.
