Shouldn't Fox News check the veracity of the information they broadcast?

Rachel Maddow shred them to pieces on tonight's show here, and here.

Heh... I've known for years that Fox News only broadcasts propaganda. In Canada they aren't even classified as "news" anymore by the CRTC it's considered "entertainment" LOL

It's not entertainment when you live among FOX news viewers. I'm honestly scared of some of the things they advocate and attempt to instigate. When Obama got elected my son wasn't allowed to play with the kids next door for a month. I get that adults can disagree; but I had to comfort my crying six year old who had to sit on the steps and watch the others play tag. The woman across from us told her sons that I was a witch, too. Yeah I recycle so I must be in a coven. Really?

Fox News has been drumming up fake stories with no other intention than to instigate hatred and fear since the start of the campaigning before the election. And it works. It gets people up in arms and angry over stuff they have made up.

People pitched a fit over their reports that Obama wasn't born in the U.S., which were completely false and unfounded.

People were up in arms over his "indoctrination speech", which again...totally false, and unfounded.

ACORN? Yup...people were furious over that little tidbit of false reporting, fake news, and made up garbage.

Van Jones...an innocent man portrayed as an ex-con by Fox News...doesn't surprise me in the least.

The worst part about it is that people will not acknowledge that they were duped by Fox. They still believe that Fox is a reliable news agency. They still believe that Fox is reporting news that is accurate. They still get angry and up in arms over this type of garbage, and continue to rely on and support Fox News.

And what happens if regulations are put in place to prevent news agencies from making things up as they go along? Well, you can bet that Fox News will lead the fight to protect our Freedom of the Press, won't they? It's easy to guess that Fox will be shouting at the top of their lungs about the communism and fascism of this administration as they try to strangle a real news source and stifle the "voice of the people".

It's pretty ridiculous what these people get away with. It's even more ridiculous that people believe them. But what is really scary is that people will continue to suport them, will continue to defend them as "legitimate", and will continue to rely upon them as a source of news.

And of course...people will continue to start ridiculous and inflammatory topics based on the piles of dog crap they were fed by Fox News the night before...

All the non-sense spread by Rush Limbaugh, Glen Back, Bill O'Reily, etc. is not news. They are for sure entertaining when they go crazy and start pulling "news" out of their heads, but lets not forget that their "news" are used by many people as facts. That is the scary part.

It is up to viewers to change the channel and start watching good shows where news and facts presented can be scrutinized for veracity. The crazy talkers mentioned above are not such shows.

As to why people won't acknowledge... I'm looking for the article now, but I read a recent study that showed even when people were presented with irrefutable evidence that a story they'd recently read, and believed, was wrong that they ignored that evidence and believed in the original story all the more.

The human mind can be a scary, scary thing.

Hmmmm...fox news... :rotflmao:
There is a reason I stick to the Daily Show, Colbert, and the papers ;)

Haha, take a look at this thread and you'll see plenty of exemplification of what you just said. :flames:

Indeed very scary!

Well yes of course. This is obviously because Faux News is the only channel brave enough to tell the truth, whereas the LIBRUL MEEDYA won't even touch stories like those. Thank heavens for Fox being there to point out all our demons, real or imagined.

Well, all news media drum up fear & anger. Stories that scare people or make them angry get lots of readers or viewers or listeners. And all news media filter the stories they run thru their worldview filters, whether liberal, conservative, or entirely separate from that spectrum. I manage this by trying to get my news from a spectrum, so I am not dependent on one set of filters, whether that's the BBC filters or the Fox News filters.

I don't think anyone can entirely step outside of their worldview filter. The best that journalists can do is try to report the facts accurately before the involuntary spin takes over.

None of this is said to defend any news outlet when it distorts or ignores the facts.

Where is that study about people ignoring irrefutable evidence Megan? :sidestep:

*grins* Took some digging. Had problems with my search parameters. But here ya go.

Deals with mental dissonance regarding previously held beliefs and information later presented. Explains why there are still flat-earthers out there, for example.

Much appreciated Megan. That means even if people switch from Glen Beck to Rachel Maddow, they would switch back as fast as they could, they would never go back, and from that point on they would start badmouthing her. :awcrap:

Scary!

I think the main problem (at least my main problem) with 'news' networks is bias, bias, and bias. They are all so biased!. They are no longer reporting news, they are making news to fit their biased agenda by means of spinning (no spin zone my butt!), twisting, half truths, out-of-context quotes and videos, etc...

I can very much understand calling FOX news "entertainment" rather than "news". But I don't think FOX has a monopoly on bias....where FOX is clearly biased towards the right, MSNBC is clearly biased toward the left. I like Rachel Maddow and I used to listen to her back during the Air America days, but she is biased too. And Fox and MSNBC aren't the only ones either.

This isn't news anymore, it's propaganda.
