I've explained his weird genetics before, but I saw someone who had a similar problem/ mystery so I'll explain them again.
Copperhead came from two virgin Butter Motleys. The whole clutch looked like Butter Motleys except for him.. he looked like an amel!

It was an extremely weird occurrence, and considering that it was the parent's first time breeding, it couldn't have been retained sperm. I've always wondered what he is and at one point I had a Caramel Motley female that I was going to test breed him to. Unfortunately that didn't pan out, and I no longer have the Caramel Mot.
My revised plans for him are a female Hypo het Amel and Caramel. Hopefully that will give me some clue as to his genetics?

Hey, do you still have pictures of his parents and siblings? Just thought it'd be cool to look at them, and I didn't save any pictures way back when. Maybe one of these years I'll get another Caramel Mot for him.
Do you think he could be homo hypo?? :shrugs: That was a random passing thought.
 
no no not gold dust... look at the eyes- pink iris!. Are there any pics of the siblings? that would be great to see and compare!

I'll look & see if I still have any. I have deleted alot of photo's in the past year. I'll have to see if I put any on dvd. I'll also look on my reptilegeek albums. No hypo in him that I know of.
 
Back in '07 Gold Dusts weren't as common.. I don't think there's any ultra(mel) in this line.

If Tom can't find pictures, from what I remember, his parents were both beautiful light Butter Motleys, and all of his siblings were completely yellow. He was the only Orange/ Red guy in the bunch. :shrugs:

Yea, I don't know why I was thinking Hypo had anything to do with it, I just thought maybe Hypo would add something to his look, but I guess that would be an Amber /amel Motley, and he would probably be even lighter or more Caramely looking. I don't know.

Hes awesome! Whatever he is....

I have a nice virgin female amel stripe het anery 50% ph caramel who wont be doing anything next year... And i would love to see her tested for caramel...

Also, John, if you see this, I have a question. I recall you saying that it's rare for Stripe's pattern to extend down its tail. Is this the same for Pin-Striped Motleys? Copperhead's pattern extends onto his tail. Just wondering if that is odd for the morph.

I wonder if it is something similar to the effect of a "red" factor, and the expression it takes in butters produces darker, "redder" (lol) butters? Or it's just an extremely dark butter?

Too bad you don't have another butter to prove him out with...Very pretty too :*)
