To pop or not to pop?

I just recently aquired my first snake. A lovely little Amel. Unfortunately, I have no idea on the sex. I also tend to be a bit OCD about knowing the gender though for names, but I'm not sure how to go about sexing this little corn. I've had it since saturday and it's a ravenous eater, having chowed down 3 pinkies already. (Giving it time to digest now) Getting it out of the tank is still a chore do to it's speed, but last handling session was good and it has seemed to calmed down a lot. But the quesition is, should I pop it? I do quite want to know the sex but I'm unsure with the risks that come with it. I'm not sure on the age, I forgot to ask that, but I'm pretty confident saying the length of the snake is about 14". So far it seems simple, but I do need some opinions!

Wow...you need to slow down and research baby snakes some. A baby corn should only have one pink every 5 to 7 days. Any more than that could lead to regurging and other serious issues. You also should give him a week to settle in before handling or feeding!
You need to be experienced and have an experienced person show you how to pop or you can hurt the snake.
Just pick a gender and enjoy your pet. And go buy Kathy Love's cornsnake book!

Yeah I got a little carried away with the feeding, it had one on saturday (They say it had been a 12 days since it's last meal, though) and 2 monday. It's surprising how fast those lumps disappear! I also don't think you understand how hard it is to keep my hands off the little thing, it's just so amazing to hold! :D But I'll refrain from further handling for it. I'll go look at that book though...

LOL! I completely understand. I remember what it was like with my first snake too!

Oh yes, we all understand! Even when you get a new snake you still are dying to get it out. Not a good idea though. And another FYI, that no one told me until I got here was not to handle it for about 2 days after feeding. If you can still see the lump, definitely don't handle him.
