I person in found this turtle in a box outside the local library I thought it was a red ear slider but it don't have red markings on the neck and the shell is very ornate.
???Yellow-bellied sliders are often confused with Eastern River Cooters, who also have yellow stripes on the neck and yellow undersides, but the latter lack the green spots characteristic to T. scripta scripta and the yellow belly often has a "s" like yellow stripe on its face.
I had some clutches with lots markings on the underside and some with none at all. Those markings are most obvious when the turtles are hatchlings. All those swirls on the carapace and most of those belly marking will fade away.
It still "might" be a cooter, but the carapace shape looks wrong.
The markings on the belly can stay as they mature.
Yep, Limey is right near me. Not 100% sure how long he has been down here, but at least a year or two. He did live on Long Island (I think) before he moved.
