Mice and rat questions

That One Weird Girl
I want to know which one breeds more with the average number so when I get a place of my own and start breeding projects, I could be prepared for all feedings. I remember rats breed incredibly fast from having 2 female pregnant rats to 64 in 2 weeks!
Which one is more expensive to take care of? I'm not sure.
And would it be natural if I fall in love with one of the babies? XD can't help loving the fuzzies :]
Any other information would be helpful :)

Rats are actually "easier" to breed for the main reason that they do not stress as easy as mice. Rats can be more expense to raise to "full size" but tend to breed more regularly. Now saying that mice require less space and you can have large breeding colonies(10 or so) in the same space as 3 rats. Both can get smelly. Mice "tend" to be less social than rats and rats make awesome pets. It might be hard to get rid of a small rat once it hits fuzzy stage. They can be really cute looking.

IMO, the best thing to do is try both for a short time. Get a small colony of mice. (1.3) Allow them 2 months to start breeding, maintence, ect... Then get a 1.2 set of Med sized rats and try the same thing. You might end up liking to do both, like myself. If your raising snakes, you will need pinkies too. So having a colony or two of mice wouldn't hurt along with the rats.

Cost, I find they both cost about the same to maintain, after intial set up costs.

Oh ok thank you very much!!

Rats dont smell as much as mice I think and they do breed alot better then my mice colony. But If your raising cornsnakes then you need mice for the pips rat pinks are to big to feed them good luck.

I agree, breed both, even if it's in smaller #'s at first!! Especially if you ever intend to breed your corns. I start feeding my females rats in december to get them ready for breeding, and for 4-6 feedings after they have laid thier eggs. the rest of the year they eat mostly mice with the occasional rabbit pinky and rat thrown in. And of course you'll need different sized mouse pinkies for the baby snakes.
