Yes, it was crawling on the Amber.

I looked on here. Someone was saying they were seeing them in their Kaytee aspen bedding, which is what I bought last week!

If you buy your aspen from a store that sells reptiles, then it can be infested with mites, because they are surprisingly active!

And so now how do I determine what kind of mite this is and how to treat? I'm doing searches and reading different responses now.

Going to email Don at SMR, too.

Going to put my bags in the freezer! I bought a giant bale of the stuff, so as I take it out of the big bag and put it in smaller bags, I'll freeze those.

Sounds like a good plan, but if there are mites already present you'll need to treat the snake and also the surrounding areas. Personally I like diatomaceous earth as pest control but you may need nix or proventamite(?) too

I also have the mite stuck on a piece of tape. I know we have many magnifying glasses, but FINDING one right now is proving to be a challenge.

That's EXACTLY why I don't buy any type of bedding. I use newSpaper for all my snakes. When I got my jungle carpet python years ago I found mites on him. Tore apart his cage an got ride of all the bedding an bark log thing. Sprayed his cage with Prevent-O-Mite. While I did that I had my snake soaking his cooking oil. I've heard water won't kill the mites. The oil gets all over an under their scales drowning the mites. Then rinsed him off really good under the tap water. Haven't had any since. There's other ways of dealing with mites. This way worked for me.
