Today at 13.00 GMT i went to feed my snake as normal after checking him this morning to find his tank open and him gone. After the panic i looked for him tore into my sofa and tv stuff with no luck. I was about to have a nervous break down :headbang:
My better half thought of the fire place. low and behold he was behind the fire. its taken me 3 hours loads of cuts and soot all over the place. He has a scrape on his side but nothing major, its been cleaned and has had a antibiotic cream put on.
Has any one else had things like this happen? May change his name to Houdini
best regards Alicia and Slinki

Yep, nearly everyone on here will have a similar story. Here's mine, the morning after getting my two new corn babies, I went to check on them and my beloved (expensive!) Platinum girl was gone! Apparently the spaces in the vents was a little too big! Found her half way round the room tucked inbetween two laptop bags. Thought I was going to have a heart attack! Needless to say the vents were modified immediately!

Oh yeah snakes are the best escape artists. I had just recently had one come up missing. To this day I have no idea how she got out of her tub but I can assure you, there is no way that is happening again. I found her chilling out under the rack.

My favorite story is still the one we found in the toilet. It was when we were fairly new to snakes. We tore apart the house looking for this little guy and about the time we give up. I go to cry and my husband goes back into the bathroom, a bathroom we almost never use and low and behold when he lifts the lid there is the little guy swimming around. The only thing we can think of is that a cat got him and jumped up on the toilet (because they often go into that bathroom) and dropped him and he slid under the lid to get away.

My first snake escaped on me twice because my mesh lid had a TINY hole in it that I was sure she couldn't get out of. I was wrong. :p I knew that she might be hiding in her tank so I tore it apart and dug through all the aspen, but she was not in there.

The desk that her tank sits on is kinda junky and she managed to find her way into one of the drawers of pens, which was quite startling when I found her. After I found her, I stupidly put her back in her tank and left to go get her a new one and she was gone AGAIN when I got back and this time she was under the desk, hiding behind some books.

I'm so glad I was able to find her both times (and she was unharmed), but now I know that you really can't be too careful when it comes to tiny spaces.

this is a lifting lid viv had lots of stuff on it figured he'd not be strong enough to lift it. So wrong. got new stack viv on order got 3 weeks to wait. got three more snakes coming then as well all adults thankfully from a rescue. will be heaven to get back to a front viv.

Probably a good idea to quarantine new arrivals away from established snakes for a few months, just to be on the safe side. This is something I'd do even if I was buying from Kathy Love herself! It's not an insult to the source of the snakes, just a sensible precaution.

If his tank was open, why call him Houdini?
Lol... watch as the amazing Houdini walks right through this open doorway.

Don't feel badly, though. I'm pretty sure that most of us have goofed during feeding time and had one sneak away (I have at least). Congrats on getting him back.
