The tank I want to use is 48" in length and a foot in width. I plan on getting an adult corn,not a baby as I'm a first time snake owner. So I'm hoping this one will be big enough. If not hopefully my aunt will be willing to trade her tank. It's a bit bigger in width,same size in length.

I'm planing on having 2 or 3 hides. I also want a stick or something for the corn to wrap around if it so pleases too. I'm thinking aspen for bedding. I know the no cedar and pine and stuff. What size of water bowl,I know it has to be big enough for the snake to soak in.what do you guys use? I plan on using an under tank heater. Does petsmart carry them? Maybe Walmart? What kind of lid do you use? I need to get a different one for the tank I want to.use, its glass. Where do you get the thermometers with the probe and hygrometers.


Sorry for the stupid questions....I want to start out the right way,not the wrong!

Plenty big for an adult.

I get glass ones at the dollar store. Square ones don't tip

Petsmart or Petco carry undertank heaters, and the adjustable thermostat you plug it in to to regulate the uth's heat output.

Maybe Walmart? What kind of lid do you use? I need to get a different one for the tank I want to.use, its glass. Where do you get the thermometers with the probe and hygrometers.

Screened lid, again for a 4X1 top petco or petsmart should have one. Get the clips that hold the lid down also. Walmart will have probe type thermometers and hygrometers, the two "pet" stores probably do too...

That tank sounds like a great size, will for sure be enough room I think! You may have an interesting time finding a mesh lid to fit it though... but make sure you get clips/locks!! Snakes can and will escape, if given the opportunity ;)
Here is a thermoSTAT, which is necessary for a UTH (which, as you've mentioned, can be bought at PetSmart and most other pet stores; you'll want one that covers roughly 1/3 of the tank's bottom - placed outside the tank)

You can get digital thermometers are a hygrometer at a reptile pet store as well, or PetSmart. Make sure you get a probed thermometer for the inside of the vive, for the warm spot, and another digital thermometer (doesn't have to be probed) for the cool side.
You can use whatever you like for a water bowl, but preferably something that won't tip over. Some people just use plastic containers. I have a dog water bowl for my corn, that has two little grooves on either side to make it easier to pick up off the ground. Doubles for a hide underneath though ;) My ball python gets a large stone water bowl made for snakes because he likes to cause trouble...

Your idea sounds great :) the more hides the better! Aspen is a great substrate to use.
If you have a stick inside the enclosure and it's one that you found outdoors, make sure to treat the wood to remove insects and and parasites or anything like that. You can do this by soaking it in bleach, rinsing thoroughly, and allowing to dry in the sun for a couple of days. You can also bake it in the oven at 200-250F for awhile... I think about an hour or two. I could be wrong, so maybe look that one up!

Where are you planning to get your snake? I strongly suggest a seasoned breeder or reptile show.

I have been hearing about a lot of malfunctions of the ZooMed brand thermostats (not the heat mats, just the thermostats)... causing injury and death to some herps :(

I'd suggest against going with one of those if you can help it!
 
Thanks guys! I told my brother before we get the snake to escape test the cage we could out my ferret in and see if the buggar can get out. He is Houdini! His cage looks like fort Knox,lol.

Just keep in mind snakes are much smaller than ferrets ;) but cute idea. I love ferrets!

With where I'm getting the snake..I'm looking,lol. No snake breeders or shows near me. Closest one is almost 4 hours away and my old beeter won't make it,lol. Maybe shipping??

If I end up shipping I think I'm going to get in contact with people on here. Also when I get the snake is it okay to get it out for a bit or just leave it alone for a week or two?

What a cute ferret!!!
After being shipped a snake is kind of stressed, so it is best to let them settle in for about a week or so. However, I can totally understand wanting to check it out! I think if you took it out, looked it over to make sure there's no stuck shed, obvious signs of infection or disease (that sort of thing), and took a couple quick pictures, that might be okay. I think that is what I would do, anyways. It's so exciting ;)
