Feeding Bin Suggestions

For those of you who prefer to feed in separate containers, I'd love to know what you have found to work best for adult-sized cornsnakes.

In the past, I've used a large-sized deli, and large "Herp Haven" cages (the plastic ones with the ventilated top and a little access door), but the snakes don't seem to find these options very inviting, and there is usually a bit of a wrestling match to insert the snake and keep head and tail tip inside, while securely closing the lid (and those lids aren't necessarily trustworthily snakeproof, either).

Ideally, I'd like something large enough that I'm not wrestling the snake into it and stressing him, but small enough so that he finds his mouse easily. Securely snakeproof so that I can trust it while doing cleaning chores with the viv. Easy-clean and lightweight, and easy to store, would be great.

Thank you!

I only have one snake that I feed in a separate container. Several snakes in my collection are very "shy" and will not eat outside of their vivs, but my snow corn seems to do better if I feed her in a separate container.

When she was little, I just used a plastic shoe box from the dollar store, but as she has gotten bigger I have had to move to a larger size RUB. The one I am currently using is a Steri-lite tub from Walmart, I am not sure how many liters it is because the sticker has come off, but I would guess it is about 8 liters. I like to keep the tub as small as is practical.

Good luck!

Here's a thread with the sizes I use the most. I don't even use that biggest one any more- I don't have a HUGE cornsnake at the moment.

The thing I like about the Sterilites is you don't have to burn holes into them. Any Ziplock container needs holes. But I do like the small rectangular or square Ziplocks for snakes that are eating hoppers/weanlings.

Thank you both so much for your replies. Not having to burn holes is certainly a plus. I'll check out the Sterilites. And thank you, Nanci, for the link to your thread; the photos were very helpful, and Cherry was an excellent model. :)
