Post Feeding Question

Good Evening,

If anyone’s read my introduction post, you’d know I’m a novice snake owner who’s wanting to do right.
Question is at what point does my corn snake laying on his heated side for days on end become a problem. At first it was “he just ate…digesting his meal” - it’s about to be day 4 and he really hasn’t left his hide.
I understand not handling for 48 hrs and don’t expect the digestive process to be complete in that time, however the instructions on the heating pad implied that having your snake choose to stay on the heated side is a problem - experienced owners please provide insight.

He’s moving around slightly - I’ll come home and his orientation is different, but for the most part he’s under his hide (it’s a hollowed out rock with hole in the top so I can see him without disturbing him)

Most likely overthinking; rather be safe than sorry

Snakes know what is best for them at any given time. It is up to us as keepers/mini gods to give them what the need to fulfill those wants. Hence we provide food in a timely manner and clean fresh water. Their housing should be roomy, secure and clean. And the enviromental factors, heat and humidity, etc, are offered in a range for them to choose from. The only time staying in one place might be construed as a problem would be hide placement. If there is only one hide and it is on the heat pad then an animal that likes to stay hidden will choose it even if it is not ideal. This is why it is recommended that more than one hide be offered.
Many animals choose warmth when given the choice. Think about the black lab that lounges in the sun on the hottest day of summer or all those "tourists covered in oil". It feels good! If you only have one hide, add another on the cool side and see if that changes things. No worries if it doesn't though because your new buddy knows what's best for him.

He has 2 - one on warm and one on cold- and a fake plant in the middle where he often hides under the leaves. I actually switched locations of his hides when I got the new heat pad just to see if he’d use it. His other one is a log that he clearly favors.
You’re right tho, he is currently burrowed under the substrate today - let him do his thing
