Hi all i have got a mat stat which has the gauge on which i have set to 82 and i also have a exo terra digital thermometer i have put both probes in the same spot but the thermometer was reading low 90s. I have now turned down the heat so i get a reading of 84 at hottest dropping to 81 at lowest but i dont know which is correct the mat stat or the thermometer as the mat stat is now set just over 70. Both parts are new which one do i trust.

I haven't used either of these, but I think I would trust the thermometer, maybe. Does the matstat just have a dial? Does it read digitally? Can you get an indoor/outdoor cheap thermometer with a probe from Walmart or somewhere to triple check?

Hi thanks for reply the thermostat does have a dial but it is not digital. Here is a link to the mat stat http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Habistat-Mat-...oryZ1285QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem I am going to get another thermometer what would be a good one to get in the uk i am not worried about price i just want something i can put my faith into. This is a link to the thermometer i am using at the moment http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/exo-terra-dig...oryZ1285QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I've got that matstat and it took quite a lot of fiddling with the dial to get steady temps for my incubator. Probably best set it slightly low and monitor the temps. I don't use that thermometer but it should be accurate (Quick tip, Maplins digital thermometer/hygrometers are IMO well worth £16! http://www.maplin.co.uk/Search.aspx?criteria=digital thermometer&source=15&SD=Y )

Thanks for that mate i will get one. I didnt even no we had maplins in the uk lol.

Well low and behold I have used both that thermostat and the thermometer. I still use the thermometer but my thermostat is a more expensive one currently. When I had the mat stat it worked fine, but the temperatures on the dial weren't completely accurate. That thermometer for me reads the same temperature as my other 2, and the thermostat. So I'd trust it!

Thats brill i will leave it how i have it set now then about 72 on the thermostat and a reading of 84 on the thermometer.

i myself dont like the habistat, as i found them not to be as accurate as i wouldlike, so i have mine as emergency use only and invested in a digital thermometer that contols temps day and night, temps are always bang on now,i know this as i have 2 digital thermometers in there too,to keep aclose eye on the temps.
digitals are moe expensive but i would rather spend alil than be uncetain about the health of my snake caused by eratic temps etc
