Ok...So she is home now!

Thanks. I still want to get some fake plants to put along the back, I just haven't been anywhere that has them yet. I checked at Walmart last time we were there but didn't find anything. Pretty much everything except for that log hide in the front on the right came from Petsmart. I suppose I need to check back there again for some fake plants. I want it to look as natural as possible for Flash. Plus I like the natural look too! It's like bringing nature into my house.

Isn't it exciting buying things for your snake? :D

Here was/is where Flash was when I took that pic of his home:

Unfortunately for the life of me, I could NOT get a clear close-up pic! GRRRRR. I need remedial photography lessons or something! I'm so jealous of all these other people who can get really good, clear close-ups of their snakes! Anyway, that's Flash hiding out in the eyeglass case which is on left side of the cave hide. He's pretty much been in there the whole time since I fed him on Sunday. He came out once and hung out on his vine a bit and explored a bit then he went right back into the empty eyeglasses case.

I'm sorry Hunter but I too have to ask if you are reading some of the posts. If you are leaving the light on at night you are throwing the cycle of the snake off. They come out at dusk, if it's daylight your snake will be confused. If you really are worried about temps get a low watt red light (they can't see the red light) however it does throw off heat, so put it on warm side and adjust the temps of UTH. With a red light you can see them but they can't see the light.

I already said!!!!! I only keep the light on during the day!!! THe temp gets to about 86.7 in the day with the light on, and then I turn it off at night, and the temp drops to about 83-84!! lol but thanks for the posts anywyas lol :)

oh, lol sry I got a litlle mean there :(
So yeah, the temps are fine, I jsut like the light also so i don't have to adjust my rheostat at night to make it a little cooler

Hunter,
I know you are just trying to get everything just right for your First snake. You should set your high end to what you need, and you should not need a heat light. Even at your home temps you will be fine. If your pet does dip below 75 your snake will be fine. Remember they are native to cooler areas than Florida. But your UTH should be more than enough for your needs. I just do not like light bulbs as a heat source for snakes, to many hazards involved.

Well I don't really use the light as much for heat as I liek it more for jsut the fact of being able to see the snake!! :) but thanks for all the help all of u!!! (Susang, I'm sorry :((, and I'm sorry to anyone else who I made made because I was a little mean, please forgive me???)

Its ok, you just gotta realize most of us have been keeping snakes probably longer than you have been alive. ;)
If you are looking for a light to see your snake, then I suggest getting a florescent bulb set from walmart for your tank. You can buy one of those under the counter lights that fit perfectly above your tank.

I personally do not use them. I have a tank that sits near my computer. i do not need a light to see my snake move around.

lol, and the little bit og heat it adds is nice, but it's fine, Can it hurt the snake at all to have a lite then?

Nope, not unless you're leaving it on all the time or it is making the temp too warm.

My light throws off a bit of heat but not enough to change the temp inside the warm hide that I've ever noticed. Plus, I have a thermostat on my UTH anyway so it keeps the temps between 80-85 degrees no matter what.

I don't think you need to worry too much about your posts, Hunter. You didn't seem all that upset to me, but I usually give people the benefit of the doubt when it comes to textual communications: No medium for tone, inflection or body language.

Anyway, is the light even all that practical just to see the snake, though? Snakes like to hide pretty much all the time. Corns come out at dusk and dawn for a while, but my guy is in his hides for most of the day and night. When he's hiding, the light isn't going to help you see him and when you take him out to feed or handle him, the light isn't going to help there either. My old place was pretty dark and I never had a problem with finding my snake.

Anyway, I'm not being critical - just trying to understand your thinking is all.

That's cool, I jsut have a 40 watt bulb in it anyways :))

Well, that's kinda my point. If the light doesn't really serve a purpose, then it's just one more thing that can malfunction and possibly injure your snake. Why have it at all?

I just got back from picking up my snake sent from Kathy Love, and She is addorable, I think I scared her to death though cause I had WAY too much aspen bedding in there, so I hade to take most of it out, and the light fell, and made a loud noise, but she seams ok, and she isn't even using her hide, she just as soon as she came out of her shipping cup, she burrowed down into the aspen, and is jsut staying there! is that normale, well at least she is by the UTH!:dancer:

Heh i told you about the substrate !!!!! Good luck
