hmm.. didn't I just post about these guys on another one of your threads. lol

I personally keep my large 6 ft Black milk in a boaphile cage. This cage is 36 x 24 x 11.5 but you might be able to get away with the 30 x 24 x 11.5 cage as well.
Corns are not that big or bulky so these smaller cages are perfect for them.

But remember any cage you order any place could take up to 2-3 months to get. They are custom built for you. Both shops are good places, funny thing is both are near Minneapolis.

Wow I just took a quick look at the website NOW I want those! I don't have time to look at them deaper cause of the kids, but will get back on tonight & chk it out more.
So if I get the boa who is 5yrs. old & weighs 20lbs (which sounds small to me) & she is 5ft long. Which cage & how would I stack...5 corns, 1 caliking & a boa?? This is going to be displayed in my house...lol POORPOOR Hubby! LOL

I need to know about heating everything!
 
You can't have them all in the stack for a while if you're going to quarantine the new snakes, Vik which gives you the time to choose :)

I personally like Radiant Heat Panels. These are mounted on the inside top of your cage. I have one for my Boa and my Burm's Cage and they work wonderfully in this house. You can get them with heat tape but I really really like these panels.

No, I never had any problems with them and many companies use them in design of the cages. Since its on top on the inside of the cage, the snake can not grab on to it or hold it in any way. My male will just bask underneath it in cold days here and when he gets warm, just moves to the cold side of the cage.
 
Is that a light? What about strips? I use those on the tanks. I don't use any lighting. Will she need lighting? Or prefer to have a lamp?

Well, I haven't got a pic of her cause the girl told hubby she needs to get a wire to hook up to the internet. So I know that probably will never happen. *sigh*

J9 how long do I need to quarantine them? I will be doin' this. You guys have taught me SO much I know better not to. :) But still how would I stack? W/ the boa on the bottom?

I think if this girl decides to keep her I will buy one myself. I 'am' the QUEEN of the snake sneak ins..lol Kinda hard to hide a 20lb snake though.
OK off to figure this out & how much all of this will cost! :eek:
 
I think 3-6 months for quarantine would be best. Not only having as much physical distance between the new snakes and your others as possible, but also handle and feed on different days or always the new snakes last. Handwashing and thoroughly cleaning any equipment such as feeding tongs. I know Vinman wears disposable gloves for handling new animals.
After the quarantine I think the boa would go on the top because it needs higher temps and the top of a rack is usually warmer.

How will I hold her when she weighs almost as much as my 2yr toddler does? DoubleYIKES! :eek:
The corn is an Adult as well. They both have been fed nothing BUT live in their viv/cage. I think that is why the Corn is moody & doesn't like her putting her hand in there w/ her plus I think she feds like 2 to 3 wks 2 mice for the Corn & 1 Rat for the Boa. :shrugs:
 
I think firm but gentle handling, maybe with gloves at first, just short sessions, then gradually build up. Ignore biting, striking and poop-flinging! I'd keep the little ones a little away from the new snakes until you've had a chance to assess their temperament. We don't want your little herpers to get bitten! Just keep telling them that the new snakes are scared and will be cuddly when they have settled in (we hope!).
One thing to consider, is that these snakes might not settle enough for your little ones to be around, or that it might be months before they do. Only time will tell, but just firm, consistent handling should bring them around eventually.
 
I agree with both Janine's posts, but I might say with QT, longer the better. So if you go 6 months to a year, you are doing fantastic.

Yeah, it might take a while for them to settle in for you. So remember baby steps and always do check lists and don't skimp. Make firm rules with these snakes and especially with the boa.
No little ones in the room with you during handling, unless they are sitting down.
A second adult in the room with you when you are working with her.
Placing a lock on the cage since you have young children.

As for the Radiant heating panels.. just imagine them like larger heating pads.
