Ebay has just went stupid and is raising its final value fees and also taking away the sellers rights to report bad buyers.
Actually, Ebay became stupid a long long time ago. They've consistently upped their fees almost on a yearly basis now and the whole feedback system as it is now has never worked as many sellers have often used it as a means for feedback hostage garbage. I've been a very frequent ebay user since 2000 and I've had over 1000 successful transactions and yet I only have over 700 feedbacks. Why? Because sellers won't initiate feedback to a buyer (who usually completes the transaction first) until after they get feedback. The problem with this is, if the seller screws the buyer and the buyer leaves a legitimate feedback, then guess what, the seller leaves a bad feedback to the buyer who paid for something they didn't get. I know I know, there are bad buyers out there too! I know all about the scams buyers pull as I have done my share of selling on ebay. The truth is, the problem there lies in paypal, not ebay. Ebay actually has little to do with any problems with most transactions, instead, if the money transaction was done through paypal, ebay simply passes the problem into paypal's lap (whom ebay owns anyways) and let's them deal (read ignore) the problem. Unfortunately, there is no real easy solution, but I believe that the system should require that the seller has 2 weeks after the auction ends to leave appropriate feedback for a buyer (which is about how long it should take to have made a payment) and then the buyer can leave feedback for up to 2 months for the seller (since some overseas items can literally take months to arrive at their destination). I think this is the fairest way, that way everybody still has the ability to leave feedback and it reduces the feedback hostage problems. But Ebay is stupid and their actions are usually more drastic than logical.
We can't let ebay take away our rights like this.
I will say however, this remark leaves me scratching my head something terrible. What rights does Ebay owe you for using
their site? Your rights are what they tell you they are and that's ultimately their business. You don't like it, you go somewhere else. I do get awfully tired of people complaining about Ebay's policies while they continue to use Ebay because "there's nothing else out there". Well, guess what? There are other options out there although none are currently as popular nor widely used, but they are out there! And what did people do before Ebay even existed anyways? The bottom line is, whether you like Ebay's policies or not, it's their business and they can do whatever they want to with it. You basically have no rights when it comes to their business model! And this is why I quit selling on Ebay years ago. I don't agree with their rules, I take my business elsewhere. Plain and simple
