Yesturday I picked my first lock. I was so happy. IDK, but there's something about doing it that makes you so happy. It's kinda like a puzzle. It took me a while, but I eventually got it. I have yet to do it again.

I just wanted to tell you all about my great accomplishment, and no, I'm not going to use this skill illegally...

What'd you use?

I find it to be highly satisfactory as well, much like the puzzle you described. I use a hand set -- I feel that the guns with interchangeable heads cheapen the experience.

Congrats in any case, no matter what you used. And it's like anything. The more you do it, the easier and faster it gets.

LOL I remember the first time I done it, I felt like I had accomplished a 'Black Art' ...LOL.
Then I tried my new found skill on another lock, and failed.
I failed for a long time until it happened again.....
I must of picked about 4-5 locks in 40yrs.....And never one that mattered, like when I've been locked out....LOL

I think it'd be a kind of cool skill to learn. Was it a padlock, or a door lock? I used to be good at opening car doors with a coat hanger (not for nefarious purposes, either!) but these days you can't do that any more...

I once used a credit card to unlock a door to a house I was house-sitting. I locked myself out...couldn't believe it would be that easy and now I am sure to deadlock bolt my apartment!

Heck, is it cheating to use a .45 caliber lock set to unlock padlocks with lost keys? If not, I've got you beat.....lol.
Cool.....Thats one Key I'd love to try:laugh01::laugh01::laugh01:
If we count technical aids, being a welder, I've 'picked'a few with the gas axe...:rofl:

I made my own pick and tension (tourque) wrench using the same techniques in a YouTube vide titled "How to make lock picks". I think that guns make there be no experience. I think they are better suited for pros with little time.

Thank you for using your powers for good rather than evil.

Haha, I've already given my evil to the world.

Please this shouldn't be something to brag about especially here.

Really? Becuase it seems like a few other people here share the interest.

Neither really, it was a lock on a rolling tool cabinet that I have. It's the same lock found on a padlock, but it's actually attachted to the cabinet.

You two deserve a seperate post :)

I once used a credit card to unlock a door to a house I was house-sitting. I locked myself out...couldn't believe it would be that easy and now I am sure to deadlock bolt my apartment!

The thing that got me interested in lock picking was that my Parents used to lock me out of certain places in the house, and me wanting to get to those places I thought up my own ways. First I tried a credit card, and as with some newer locks, it didn't work. Second, my genius idea, I stuffed the little hole on the door frame that the bolt slided into with paper. After the door was shut (and locked) I was able to slide a wire behind the bolt, and pull it forward to open the door, taking advantage of the fact that the bolt hadn't slid all the way into the door frame, which renders this trick and the credit card thing useless.

Lastly, I learned about how locks work, and then eventually lock picking.
