Few pics from a couple Road Cruises

[Insert Witty Commentary]
Over the last week or so, my girlfriend, my daughter and I have gone out road cruising in the evening, looking for some local snakes...and we've been quite successful! We have found a BUNHC of gopher snakes, a couple longnose, kings, and some others that were D.O.R.

So I thought I might share some pictures of my recent finds:

Typical Cali for the area...

A 4' plus Great Basin gopher snake we brought home to help relieve a rodent problem in the yard.

A 3 1/2' gopher...Zayne's first encounter with a wild Pituophis.

A Clarus Phase Western Longnose.

A small(about 2 1/2') but extremely aggressive gophersnake.

We've been looking for a Rubber Boa that Zayne could wrangle up and catch on her own, but so far...no luck. However, this Western Longnose was extremely calm, and Zayne decided she wanted to hold him for a couple pics.

Thanks for Looking!

They are *way* cool!! I'm glad Zayne is enjoying herping with you; good age to get her started!

Hey Chris, I remember about a year back you hitting on my daughter. Remember, what goes around comes around. That's one cute girl you got there.

Great pics Chris. Love the one where your daughter is just laughing out loud at that gopher!

Gophers are one of her favorites...I think just because she likes the word "pituophis"...she likes to play "I'm a big, mean pituophis, and I'm gonna bite you!" at which point she hisses at me and strikes at me like the snakes do...she finds it all very amusing...

Thanks everyone for the comments! This season is just getting started, too. I can't wait until it warms up again...we're having crap weather the last few days...

Might be I am paranoid, but I don't usually handle WC caughts for fear of bringing in something to make my group ill, let alone bring it into my premises..

However nice finds, I have seen more of the Long Nose this year than I have in the past few years, but I have never found a king in my local as far as I know.. It might have been the DOR I found a few years back ( B & W banded with a crushed head ) was the local shovel nose.. I did find a leaf nose recently too, must have been an adult, to bad it was DOR as well..

Regards.. Tim of T and J

That clarus phase is an interesting looking snake. Great to see a little one enjoying snakes so much! Good luck with the rubber boa they are one of my faves...wish i had one lol.
