Boa eats house cat in Orlando.

You know, I do feel bad for the cat, I love cats and have one myself, which is why I would never get a large snake. But I hate to see stuff like this on the news, bad publicity for snakes and more fuel for those who wish to ban them.

They're both pets.....Sucks for the cat...But the Boa's aright for a month or two... :sidestep:
Shame the one everybody likes is furry..
I actually root for the snake if it's a matter of taking sides... ;) :)LOL

Well actually the snake did win. She ate the cat and found a new home and will live a long happy life there. :)

This story didnt make the snake a monster. There was no images of the Cat owner Sobbing to the camera about how horrible it was for her cat to die. The most we saw was that woman called up animal control.

"She said, 'I've got a big snake. Would you please come and help us with him," explained Corey Hicks, Critter Control.

The 9-and-half-foot long snake he had just eaten the cat that used to call the back yard home.

"What happens is these animals notice pets in yards. They set up shop here. It's like a big buffet for them," Hicks said.

Of the snake articles I have seen, this is one of the better ones. Hick's put the blame in the right place on the irresponsible pet owner who let the snake go.

Just thought I would add, cats that are allowed to roam loose outside face a lot of dangers besides snakes such as dogs, raccoons, cars, other cats, people who hate cats, etc. They can pick up diseases or breed thus adding to the feral problem and they decimate wild bird populations in some areas including some endangered species. Yet in these type of stories the irresponsible one is always the snake owner...

Are you saying the snake did the responsible thing and ate the cat to protect some endangered native birds and animals? :sidestep:

No but I'm sure some would see it that way. The snake just knew it was hungry and found something to eat.
Basically I keep my cat inside, and if I let her out I'd be worried all the time. It's hard for me to see them as invasive species because I like cats but that is basically what they are.

I just found it interesting. Unfortunately I'm at work and dont have computer speakers, so I'll have to wait til later to see whats going on with it.

I do feel sorry for the cat, but the boa was just doing what it does best, you know?

I like cats too. I have one. I've seen how they can devastate wildlife though.

My dad's old place in SC had a big pleasant back patio. It wasn't uncommon to grill and eat dinner out there, or just relax and read a book. Then a stray cat started hanging around and they adopted it. Gave it shots and spayed it. A really sweet cat by all accounts, but they let it stay an outdoor cat.

Their back patio they always used to use was no longer a pleasant place to relax. The cat killed every little lizard, snake, frog, etc. that used to be very commonly seen back there. Mosquitoes and other annoying bugs took over because there was nothing to eat them. All this due to a single cat.

Not to mention the house was on a golf course where gators were a common sight.
