Snake about to shed. Feeding question

My snake is about to shed and its feeding day. Since I had it it has shed on 12/27/08 & 1/27/09, and now its soaking in the water dish. Should I just go ahead and take it out to eat or wait? Last meal was 2/15/09 two average size pinky mice.

You can try to feed her since it's feeding day. It won't make much a difference, I feed my snakes when they're in blue and they do just fine :) But don't be worried if she refuses to eat since she's about to shed.

You can do what you want but you have to be careful with feeding snakes in the blue, the skin looses it's elasticity and add pressure can cause a reguge or cause a premature shed. It doesn't hurt to wait till it sheds to feed anyway.

I've heard of snakes regurgitating because of being fed in blue, which can be a serious health problem. Personally, I've never experienced this problem. Up to you, but I'd wait a few days just to be safe.

Funny...this is the first time I evern heard of this. Must be something new.
My amel usually always eats while in blue and he never had a problem.
But who knows.

I've never had it happen either, yet I've never tried. If your willing to take a test risk :) doesn't hurt to wait though lol

Been testing for over four years now. Once or twice had a refusal but no reguge.
Just wondering where this information came from?
That's all.

Lenny, I've read a few times on this forum that problems have results from feeding while in blue. Like I said, I've never encountered such problems, but... better safe than sorry.

Im with Lenny on this. Never heard that before nor has it happened to me. My guy takes it while in blue and has never had a problem. There is no risk in doing it and waiting throws off the feeding times.

Who said this information is all I'm asking...
Snakemaster??

There is a chapter in Don Soderbergs book that mentions it but I've heard about it too, geee a long while ago when I use to work in pet stores as a kid and had to feed all the little one's. Never really tested though but so far all is well over here lol shrugs.. it does make sense though when you think about pressure :shrugs: Doesn't hurt to be careful though does it?

No it does not hurt to be careful but this is not something that is a risk to the snake. Feeding live, yes. Having a UTH without something to control it, yes. Feeding while in bllue, no.

Many people feed while there snake is in blue without ill effects. It's really up to the owner. If you want to feed while in blue go ahead, if you don't then no one is forcing you to. Your snake will be the judge in the end.

Thanks for all of the replies everyone. I think that I will go ahead and try feeding. Looking at my records the last time that it shed it ate 1 regular size pinky and one small pinky the day before and had a complete shed.

yep, your snake do as you wish. Just shared my two cents about regurge "it could happen" and if so you chance dehydration. Once they do regurge you wouldn't be able to feed for about ten or so days and only somthing smaller then normally fed.

It won't hurt the snake to wait to shed either **Is all I'm saying**
It's not going to go hungry if your not RIGHT on the exact feeding day. If your on a scheduled feeding day, lets say every Sunday for an example then feed it the following Sunday after it sheds.

Do they molt the same day every month or is it just a fluke that it happened like that last time.
Here's a picture of it's enclosure, the snake wasn't in it at the time.

Oh I agree to this...

Sorry but this is the very first time I have heard this statement on this or any other forum. And I can't remember reading it in Kathy book. I do believe there is always something new to learn but you could understand my questioning this ...I hope.
