So I ordered 100 large pinkies from rodentpro last friday. paid with paypal. checked on the order status yesterday and they told me that it would not ship till next week. Apparently they only ship on certain days and it takes up till 11days for an order to ship. So I went ahead and cancelled the order ($40 dollars for s/h and it takes 2 weeks?). I called themousefactory.com and left a message.

Anyone else experience this?

p.s. they were very pleasant to deal with and issued me an immediate refund. I just think that they could speed the process up a little bit.

Their policy is orders on or before Thursday ship the following Mon or Tues, orders Friday and after ship the week after. Not much that can be done.

you don't consider 1-2 weeks for delivery with $40 s/h to be bad?
When I order about $150 worth of rodents at a time in one shot.. no.

locally i would pay $10 for a dozen of pinkies. And I just got a bag of a 100 for $12. ( bought more than that one bag) But you do the math.. I am still saving a lot of money.
And the amount of animals I have and the Amount of food I order for them. Its really not that bad in the long run. Especially when they are having killer sales like they been having right now.

And seriously, 2 weeks is not that bad to get an order sent to you. I plan ahead and I never have a problem with it.

It's not "bad" or "good" per se. They are clear and upfront about what they're doing and there's reasons for it (they normally deal with LARGE volumes from people who buy a LOT of mice) so there's nothing wrong with it.

Whether it's worth it to you is another story. I think most any place where you buy frozen mice the s/h will be fairly expensive, because good packing requires lots of insulation and dry ice to make sure the mice don't thaw in transit. Bulky box + short ship times = expensive s/h. It's generally only worth buying frozen online if you're going to buy enough that the price difference of buying locally will offset the s/h. If you just have one snake, maybe not. For those of us with 10, 100, 1000 (zounds!) snakes, the price can be well worth it considering the volume of mice gone through.

Rodent pro does have the cheapest mice of any service, so far as I know. I imagine to make the mice so cheap they have certain measures enacted for efficiency, such as their shipping time policies. They also have nice features such as the calculator that lets you see how full your "box" is so you don't waste s/h on an extra bag of pinkies that puts you over into two boxes (doubling s/h), or lets you fill up that little extra space.

Hope that helps :) Basically, rodentpro's great if you need a lot of mice, if you just need a few it's probably not worth it.

This has never happened to me before.

Consider the volume of mice they are euthenizing and packaging and then shipping . . .

There needs to be some policy in place for when they kill, package and then ship their product. I doubt there's an "Easy" button. As for the price of shipping, it's the price UPS charges.

I just got in an order yesterday, $450 worth of mice, rats, and DOCs; 2000 total animals. Shipping came to $99.14 for two boxes. You see you ordered 100 mice, to ship 100 mice, be it pinkies or adults it still takes a whole box, so you are still paying $40 to ship 1 box. I ordered 20 times the amount of animals and paid ~$50/box, only $10 more than you. To make ordering from a company like rodent pro a feasible option, you must really make a larger order, fill a box. I think one of the boxes I got in was bulging, I had them put so many mice in it.

And about the two week delivery, they clearly state in their TOS that orders placed after thursday will take 10 days to be shipped. I placed my 2000 piece order last thursday, and it was sitting on my porch yesterday when I got home.

Never had a problem with it and it is all explained up front and in the e-mail you get after making your order.

For me, it is completely worth it. I ordered 600 mice for $122.29 (INCLUDING S&H)... or 20.4 cents/mouse... HUGE savings for me. It was during a sale, but hey, it was also a SURE thing. Plus, because I can vacuum seal them, I've got mice for a good 4+ months.

I've ordered from RodentPro and Mousefactory before, and while rodentpro is nice, MF beats them in packaging, price, and customer service. They are my GO-TO now.

EDIT: I meant Mice Direct, not Mouse factory. Check those guys out
.

my bad, end of the week brainfarts.

Price?

My order from Rodent Pro:
100 Mice: Extra Small Pinkies @$0.120 ($12.00)
300 Mice: Small Pinkies @$0.120 ($36.00)
400 Mice: Large Pinkies @$0.120 ($48.00)
300 Mice: Peach Fuzzies @$0.140 ($42.00)
200 Mice: Fuzzies @$0.140 ($28.00)
300 Mice: Hoppers @$0.190 ($57.00)
100 Mice: Weanlings @$0.300 ($30.00)
100 Mice: Extra Large Adults (XL) @$0.400 ($40.00)
50 Rats: Weaned @$0.690 ($34.50)
150 Chicks: Small @$0.120 ($18.00)

Sub-Total: $345.50

S&H: $99.14 (Cost of packing materials, dry ice, and insurance are included.)

Order Total: $444.64

The same from the mouse factory (using prices for a bulk order-2000 mice):
no xs pinkies
400 Mice: Small Pinkies @$0.20 ($80.00)
400 Mice: Large Pinkies @$0.20 ($80.00)
no peach fuzzies
500 Mice: Fuzzies @$0.30 ($150.00)
300 Mice: Hoppers @$0.40 ($120.00)
100 Mice: Weanlings @$50.00 ($50.00)
100 Mice: Jumbo Adults @$0.55 ($55.00)
50 Rats: Weaned @$1.10 ($50.50)
no chicks either

Sub-Total: $585.50

plus what ever shipping is. So if I had made the same order from TMF, I would have paid $140 (plus whatever shipping would have been) more, I would not have got the variety (xs pinks and peach fuzzies), and I would not have got any chicks.

I think Ill stick with Rodent Pro.

I've ordered from the Mouse Factory too and I'll give you their packaging is top notch. However, beat RodentPro price??? I don't think so and it is not even close. Almost twice as much for most sizes and if I'm looking at the wrong price lists please give me the one that beats RodentPro's prices! ;)

Yeah, it's cool if you want to pay more for packaging and presentation. I understand that! But let's face it, rodent pro is good for price, TMF for presentation and convenience.

It's all good.

Yeah, I prefer TMF but I can't dispute those figures. If someone is not experienced ordering mice though, or just doesn't need that many, it doesn't make sence comparing prices like that. They will end up paying quite a bit more for empty space with both companies.
I'd say for those of us with only a few snakes it makes more sence comparing the price to the local alternative, ie Petco etc. In which case both companies will save you a ton of money..

If only I could get my mouse bills that low. I remember the days.... :sigh:

Be careful Mike, this hobby is addicting and before long you'll see 1000 lot orders!

Well I breed my own mice on top of this. I just couldn't pass up the "Hott Deals", and I always like to order mice at the beginning of the breeding season just to make sure I have enough to last for what I am personally planning on keeping. (Luckily I have a wholesaler that will buy everything I do not want at a "decent" price, so no worries about feeding everything I produce for 2-6 months, while they wait to sell.) I am sure that $1000 orders are not far off, especially if I buy one of the houses I am looking at - 3-5 times the amount of space available for a snake room(s).
