So Sky the LTR that I "rescued" from being repeatedly dropped at the petshop passed away last night. He was midshed, and I went to the bathroom, came back and he was belly up, not moving. I gave him a few minutes, thinking maybe he rolled over while trying to get his shed off, and when I finally checked him (after him not moving for 10min) he was definitely dead. :awcrap:

I am going to tally this one up to the handling at the pet store. Not that I think "I can do no wrong," but because I have only had him 6 days and his husbandry was perfect.

All I could do was bring him back to the store, and get $80 store credit. Dog food money I guess...

Needless to say I am upset and am not buying snakes from a pet store again. EVER.

THE GOOD-
So I had mentioned that I used to have 2 Ball Pythons, and gave them to my little brother when I deployed. Well he had purchased a 3rd baby at the last show, and now doesn't have room/the funds to keep her! When he heard that Sky died he gave his little female BP to me! I am really excited, THANKS DREW!
I will have pics posted in the General Chit-Chat Forum as she is not a Corn...

THE OTHER GOOD-
MY MOUSE HAD BABIES! Check out the "Feeders" forum for details and pics...

RIP Sky. No matter how short the time you've had a pet, it's always a sad thing to go through.

Thank you guys...he was so pretty! I knew after watching him be dropped twice in a row, that he had probably been dropped quite a bit before...but thought I'd give it a shot...

Wow, I'm so sorry Sky died. They must have really taken bad care of their snakes, because I know you didn't cause this in 6 days. Again I'm very sorry for your lose at least she had a good life for a short while. RIP Sky.

Josh,
Sorry to hear about that, we all loose one. It happens.
Who knows, maybe at the next show in Indy you can get another?

Thats real bad luck, sorry to hear it......
But don't give up on shops, they are a great place to meet up and chat about things....
Just don't confuse pet shops and reptile specialists....
I would never use a pet shop, they just sell things to make money. Reptile specialists on the other hand need our support....

I'm sorry for your loss Josh.
As Mike said, it is important to support reptile specialists, not pet shops that operate for profit only. By rescuing that snake you made possible for them to have another one for sale.
IMHO, the best thing you can do is to get in their faces. Talk to the person in charge of the reptile section, boycott the store if conditions don't improve, and ultimately contact authorities to check on the store.

sorry to hear about that but the dropping may not have caused that there is a link between genetic morphs and death. Not that it had to be the cause but genetic morphs are sometimes bad for the snake do you hav epictures oof her cage? I had a snake die on me about 4 years ago. Its hard.
Sorry for your loss

Sorry for your loss

Can you elaborate? I'm confused and since I'm terrible with genetics, could you please dumb it down for me? What clue did you get to suggest genetic morphs? Wouldn't the drops be a MUCH more probable cause of the death?

You know, I was just as confused. David, your post makes pretty much no sense at all.

Josh, I'm very very sorry for your loss. I know how hard it is to lose a snake. I lost my first two after a very short time many years ago. Don't give up on all shops, some can be pretty good.

Well genetic morphs are not good for sankes or any animal for that matter yes I have them and yes I am gettin some in the future but some morphs can have bad effects. I once saw an albino bull snake and a normal bull same size sex and cage type 20 gallon long size custom built cage well the albino could not even get close to the mouse and his owner had to just put the mouse on the bedding and then ot took the snake 15 minutes to even find it the normal bull grabbed, constricted and began feeding in less than a minute. It is not likely but could have played a roll. I mean dropping a snake twice is deffinatly a bad thing but I would think that you would have seen earlier signs. Did you check temps, beddings etc etc etc.
There is no such thing as perfect husbandry no hobbyist can provide the prime caging for any animal. No zoo, keeper, or reasearcher. But many of the people on the forum get pretty damn close. I have read albino and leucy animals can not have heat lights as it damages their organs scince they have no pigment or no black pigment.
All the best
David

Josh,
I'm sorry for your loss. I know it must be hard, but you can rest assured that your he lived his last few days in paradise compared to how he had been treated before.
My condolences to you.

I PMed you when I saw your signature, but just want to say that I am sorry he/she didn't make it. Sky really was a cute little snake! Better luck next time!

Ok David...the Leucistic is a NATURALLY OCCURRING MORPH...it's not like people have to selectively breed to get them. This being said...I didn't use a heat lamp on him...not that I imagine a regular old heat lamp would do much, since they aren't any brighter than a 95 degree sun that it would bask under in the wild...

Since your posts are always so f-ing stupid, I am gladly extending this gracious offer to you. Stay away from my threads and don't leave stupid b.s. and I will stay away from yours and not comment on your stupid b.s.

As for the others, thank you for your very kind words...

My heart goes out to you, bud! I mean that you have enough to deal with. But, then he goes and posts that! I cannot believe it! Considering some of the other stuff that kid has pulled, it doesn't surprise me.

Again, you have my deepest sympathies! Don't let ----- ---- get under your skin. Take it easy!!
