Considering a Blood Python.

Agreed. I think Tricksterpup (Jim) also has or had some. He could tell you lots of information about them.
As I said earlier, they hit like a mack truck. I found a link to show the aftermath of a bite - it does have blood, so beware and click at your own risk.
Blood Bite

That's enough to make me RUN! LOL

lol thanks Suzy, you are correct, i do own one kudos for the good memory. I havent posted her in a while.

[*]They get large and need a cage as 1.5x wider than themselves to allow adequate room. I will accommodate by using a 75 gallon. If this snake out grows this I will make it a larger cage

David,
Tanks are a bad idea period. Stay away from Aquariums when dealing with snakes this big. Plus a cage like this will cause a hatchling to go off feed and will not keep the humidity.

David, if I sound harsh is because i am being blunt and to the point. No sugar coating here at all.

Jim no offense did ya read my last 6 or so posts! I am not getting it now!!!!!!!! Mabye not until I am your age! My King Rat is my big snake now! No more! Nothing else needs to eat XL rats until after college!

Damn Jim. I am not getting one! Floof made me change my mind! I am getting a cutie pie Granite (anery Blood) instead!

Even if his post came a bit late, it was a very good post and his advice is well-heeded. That's another thing I think everyone else forgot--is you don't have any real experience with boids in general (handling adult male bloods at shows aside). Jim makes a very good point. When you do finally decide to get into boids, it would definitely be a good idea for you to start with a dwarf BCI and work your way up.

Beautiful snake, by the way, Jim. =)

I think I may just stick to clubrids until after college. I like them more.......they are pretty

David, I think the problem we see is you seem to research animals, think you want one, post your getting, thinking of getting one and then when people who have more experience then you give you their 2 cents worth. You say "I"m not getting one after all".
Do you post these threads just so people will post? Or do you honestly thing you can handle these kind of snakes.
I truly hope you make the right decision and stick with some very nice corns.

And they are fun to photograph ;) I can't wait to go home, hope to have some pippy golddusts ;) Good decision to wait David :) It's better to sit back and really contemplate what you want instead of rushing into every thing you find that you want, trust me.. ;)

Thanks she is getting big.. Larger than any of my Adult male ball pythons right now. She eats a large rat and you dont even notice it. Food items would be guinea pigs, rabbits or baby pigs.

Here are a few more of her.

Snakemom listen I was going to PM you but I am just gonna say it. I keep hard to find animals because I love seeing something different. I like the challenge. I wanted a blood but after listening to people who know more than I it was decided to avoid that animals for a while. I am tired of you assuming things. I have a mother who already does that for me. So please I wanted to see what paople had to add not just to see posts. You seem to hat eme for some unknown reason. My past on this forum is gone. Thanks and have a great night

Yea I am glad I waited. That thing is hugenormous!

Baby pigs... Wow! I always forget how big a "big" boid gets, until someone mentions their "usual" prey item... Or mentions that their python weighs more than two or three of my dogs combined... Lol. =P

My burm probably weights over 130 pounds and eats 10 pound rabbits.
Bloods on average should be between 40 pounds.

Damn I heard 15 pounds was a good size for them. Damn was I wrong!

I was a bit off on the weight, not up to 60 pounds but still they are a big snake. I have a 20 pound boa and he is very strong and big. He wrapped around my arm one day and turned it blue. They are that strong so just imagine a 30 pound blood could do?

from VPI
This is a very heavy-bodied snake. Large adults may have a massive girth. The head is long and broad, wider than the neck; the tail is short. Most adult females measure 50"-66" in total length, most adult males measure 40"-56" in total length. Older females occasionally attain 72" in total length. The maximum size for the taxon reportedly exceeds 9 feet in total length, but we are unconvinced. We've seen large obese females that weighed 40-45 pounds.

I'm actually speechless... Lol. Just carrying my 30 lb boxer mix for a minute or two is exhausting. I can't imagine a 40 pound snake, let alone a 100+ lb one... I think I'll be sticking to my "worms" and stunted/dwarf BCIs for now... Lol. ;)

Exactly what I was thinking. Before there were 2 pages of this I was telling my husband "he does this all the time...people will tell him it's a bad idea and he'll change his mind" and I was right.
